How the hell did you get that Canada invented the telephone?

In the 1870s, two inventors Elisha Gray and Alexander Graham Bell both independently designed devices that could transmit speech electrically (the telephone). Both men rushed their respective designs to the patent office within hours of each other, Alexander Graham Bell patented his telephone first. Elisha Gray and Alexander Graham Bell entered into a famous legal battle over the invention of the telephone, which Bell won.

Last I looked, both these homeboys was Yanks.

oh, and this fucks up another one:

Penicillin was discovered by bacteriologist Alexander Fleming working at St. Mary's Hospital in London in 1928.

Where in Canada is London located again?

This isnt about which country is better.

I think we have to take penicillin out of the canada column. Not only was it discovered by an English guy but it was only made useable many years later by an Australian dude. The phone thing I thought was Bell?

No hot dogs for the US either Im afraid. The Frankfurter was renamed a hot dog bc of those little world wars. Can you guess what city, (and country), gets the hot dog?

Um, I dont think Bill Gates is an asset to our country. Monopolies arent good for democracies.

So far we have, (with some additions)

US
Harleys
The Blues were born here
First successful heavier than air powered flight was here
First mass production automobile
Basketball
Invented Jazz
Invented Rock and Roll

Dude don't even get me started on the world wars.. Canada won several critical victories in WWI (eg. Vimy Ridge).. Germans always doubled their troops whenever they heard Canadians were coming.. they feared us.

As for WWII, if Hitler never sent that letter to Mexico telling 'em to attack the states, you would've never joined in.. Well that, and you feared the spread of communism once Russian kicked Germany's ass.. always thinking about yourselves!
Russia did 99% of the work in WWII - Hitler had all his best and most veteran troops on the east front, not to mention a LOT more troops there than anywhere else. In the east they mostly had those enlisted boys of SS, all teens and shit.

Send me proof of not only battles that Canadians had a major part in winning, but also I need to know about this letter to the Mexicans and the fact that according to you somehow Russia almost singlehandly slayed Germany. What the fuck is wrong with the god damn school system in Canada? Your grasp of recently past history is fucking pathetic. Go ahead and tell me the holocaust didn't really happen also, and I'll tell you that you are a member of Hamas. Jesus, what a fucking pinhead.

http://www.civilisations.ca/cwm/vimy/index_e.html The WW1 Canada reference.

http://www.worldwar-2.net/index.htm Here's a ww2 timeline.

Basically, we entered the war because Germany declared war on us. We were providing aid to our allies which was pissing Hitler off.

I wasn't able to find information on Mexico's role in the war.

Germany lost because they spread themselves too thin. They were fighting a war on 2 fronts, which takes a tremendous amount of recourses. Russia Basically kicked their asses with the cold weather in their country but they wouln't have been able to defeat Germany single handedly.

Also i don't understand what you mean by we feared the spread of communism one russia kicked Germany's ass. How would that be worse then a dictatorship?

il back it up later, but i dont feel like typing too much here right now... mexico did receive a letter to attack us, but that was NOT why we joined the war... we were already involved indirectly(sending ships, boats, tanks, guns, etc to the allies) but pearl harbor was the climax... im sure you all remember the 'waking a sleeping giant' speech, rgr??

Roacha, quit trying to discredit me.. The 'proof' that you require - online links - those can have their own inaccuracies and their own biases. I'm sure if an american created a WWII website, he would concentrate mostly on American achievements, to boost the nation's ego. There are very few, if any, 100% unbiased websites.

As for my first post - Bell was Canadian citizen, working in University of Boston when he invented telephone in 1876. He became a 'naturalized citizen' of United States in 1882. Check Here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Graham_Bell)
And I'm sorry I said penicillin, I meant insulin - that was discovered in University of Toronto, which I now attend. Here (http://inventors.about.com/library/inventors/bldiabetes.htm)

Anyways, no time now, I"ll type more later.

Seems Canada claiming Bell is dubious at best.
In a testament to Bell's internationality, he was named one of the top ten Greatest Canadians, Greatest Britons, and "American Greats".

He was born and raised in Scotland, spent about 6 years in Canada, came to the US and invented a bunch of shit, got old and went into the woods in Canada to die. At this point I guess he has spent more time in Canada than any other country, even though he has been dead for most of his stay there, which would account for his not having invented much during his Canadian years. Ok I guess that makes him a Canadian.

I see your insulin and raise you "PROZAC"

Well, this isnt working out at all. Im not suprised but it is still disappointing. I think we should close this thread.

This thread was supposed to be about the accomplishments of our two countries. An open exchange of ideas. Not a pissing match. And certainly not playground namecalling.

"Your grasp of recently past history is fucking pathetic. Go ahead and tell me the holocaust didn't really happen also, and I'll tell you that you are a member of Hamas. Jesus, what a fucking pinhead."

What the fuck, are you twelve? Is this how you have discussions LaRoacha? How about having an open mind? How about listening to why Canada might be claiming Bell? How about being receptive to learning something new? What if it turns out that Bell always considered himself a Canadian? Wouldnt that be a shocker?

Guess I have to chime in. Im in Canada too, so it seems there is at least 3 of us.

Like to start of with, I think Basket ball was invented in Canada. Not sure, no links just what I thought I heard some where.

http://www.ku.edu/heritage/graphics/people/naismith.html

The Quebec thing is about them being special. Distinct. They want that written into the Constitution, which they are not part of. They are part of the Country but are not part of the Constitution some how. Not sure of the details, and I could be a little wrong on that. But I am from the west. There be Oil there. Quebec is a "have not" province, and they recieve transfer payments from the fedrel government. They have always recieved them. The west generates lots of cash and the East has at times sucked Billions from them. ie, the energy progam of the 70's.

There is a French thing that I learned just recently from a guy from france. They believe that attack from within is better than an attack from without. The french permiate our government, some how we are forced to be bi-lingual to work in the government.

Quebe elects government which has a main goal of seperation, which has been held over Canadas head now for 30+ years.

Need I go on?

Oh yeah, we have Mucklucks too

My family before me was in the oil line of work. I have personaly worked on drilling rigs, on the floor swinging that chain they use to swing.

Most oil is actualy drilled for. Most Oil in Canada (Alberta) is drilled. Drilling causes only a little square of the land to be "destroyed", bout the size of a school yard. This may involve making a road too, and sometimes flattening the side of a hill.

A VERY Large amount of oil is locked in what is called the Tar Sands in northern Alberta. To get this oil you have to mine it. The land around is completely destroyed, and anything living there destroyed as the mining progresses. The depth of the mining is surface mining so there is no way to go under the top soil and wild life. Actualy the tar sands continually drop into the Athabaska River in big black chunks when the weather is warm enough.

I am not sure what kind of oil is in Alaska. If it is Tar Sands type oil then I can understand the consern. If it is drilling, then I dont see the consern. Alaska is more north of the Alberta tar sands, and from what know, the further north you go the more sencitive the environment is to contamination.

more good bad canada/US

Alcan scenery: Very good

Lack of a 4 lane road for pretty much the whole alcan: very very bad

Nobody obeys the speed limit signs- good and bad, save the money you spent on the signs and make the road 4 lanes dammit

Underpowered overweight RV's bad...(in canada's defense most of this catagory are driven by americans)... But they are in canada... push

The reason listed above is why canada has such strict handgun laws... good

make the passing lanes only 2 kilometers... bad

put passing lanes everywhere both directions... would be good if they did it

When the keep the province moving forward construction campaingn stops traffic going both ways on the only road around.... Ya its bad.

Ill think of more later...

RustyBrownSheriffsBadge

Why would more strict hand laws be good? I would hate to live in a place where I could not protect my family or myself. We have strict laws just no one with the balls to prosecute them like they should.

Guns to protect your family are unfortunatly a VERY small portion of the actual reasoning behind owning a gun.

I think in Canada they need a worthless driver test. If you fail, you gotta put a huge sign on top of your car and drive in a special, double wide lane for worthless drivers. I swear, you drive in an 80 zone around here; no ones going above 70.

Sometimes I wish I had a fucking snow plow and it was legal to bash drivers going under the fucking speed limit for like 5 km's down the road off the road. They're all fucking oblivious too.
