I am looking to get into music composition and was wondering if any of you know of any good programs to use. Like synth's or midi or anything really. my main goal is to make music for video games but that's long down the road. need some schoolin first. But anyways, I'd appreciate anything you guys might have to offer.

ask MF, he's into that stuff.. I would actually be interested to know myself, too!

I installed this program for some one here like a year ago, I believe it was called music box... looks really involved though..

but perhaps that is what you are looking for...

There's so much out there...and if you don't plan on getting into the hardware aspect of it, like actually builing a home studio, something I plan on doing eventually, there's plenty of tools that will allow you to produce a great sounding track directly from your PC. I strictly use three programs. Mainly because most "profesional" programs are so in-depth, it takes a year to learn the new stuff. I've been using Reason for 5 years now, and pretty much know it like I know my dick. I've had all three versions. Reason, Reason 2, Reason 2.5, and now Reason 3.0. You absolutely have to have Soundforge, and Recycle to supplement Reason.
But, yeah...I'm all about Reason 3.0 (http://www.propellerheads.se/)

FL Studio is a great program...It's one of those that is too much for me to take the time to learn. I'd rather stick to what I know and just make music rather than learn another piece of software. I compare Acid to FL Studio in the same manner I would compare, say, a Walmart Casio Keyboard with Korg Triton Extreme. Not that Acid is a shitty program, it's just that, you wouldn't buy a $2,500 Korg if you don't know how to play a Keyboard, you'ld get the $200 Casio. (I would hope)
