So the u.s. gives tons of money to other countries in need...in times of disaster, and get slammed for not giving enough even though our deficit is well into the hundreds of billions. We still give give give. So, can we even get a "fuck you suckers!" from them? Hell no. I'm sure we could use some help in the ways of man power...donations of supplies, etc...Our country doesn't really need money, but at least a phone call asking if things are alright would be nice. I say fuck them. They don't like us anyway.

fucking A, i send out planes all day with tons of supplys for people over seas our troops and thier civilians....oh well dude, maybe the US forgot to pay their phone billz.
Its like this - so many of the things about our country that made it great have changed yet US citizens believe things are the same as they were thirty years ago. How much money we "give" other countries is one of them.
Guess what, we dont give that much.
How much money we donate and with what stipulations we donate arent really the issue. But we could easily make them the issue. But I wont.
We do donate alot. But we dont donate alot compared to other countries. In fact, of the 22 industrialized nations that give money away as "foreign aid" the US, the richest country in the world, is dead last. Even Greece gives more than us. Being dead last doesnt make me proud. I want my country to be number one.
Greece gives more than the US. In a sense.
When it comes to foreign aid, how much you have to give tells more than how much you give. For example, if you found out two people gave 100 dollars to your gold star mothers support group you might be all "wow thats great".
Now, if you found out one was me, you might be like, "aww, aint that nice". But if you found out the other dood was Bill Gates you probably would be like, "Just a 100?, what the fuck?"
So greece donates far less than we do but they donate a lot more of what they have. And that says a real lot to people about character. And when you are poor, character means alot.
If the other 21 countries in the world can afford to donate .2% of their GDP to foriegn aid, why cant my country do the same? Or .21%? These countries have less to give and yet they effectively give more. It would be like collecting a tip for the pizza guy at a party and the guy who pulled up in the benz puts LESS than every one else. As of 1/05 the US donated .13% of its GDP to foriegn aid. Come on, arent we at least better than France?

Uh oh...
your example there 3043 was a very religious-driven example.
"We have more money, threfore we should be giving more"
are you feeling ok?
If you dont know what I mean.. that is a prime example that has been driven into a lot of peoples heads regarding religion and how much money we donate to the church.
Story basically goes like this... An older richer lady writes a big phat check (say $100) and throws it in the tithe bin... another lady throws in 3 pennies.
The rich lady makes a comment on how this other lady has hardly given anything.. but in all actuality, that is all that poor lady has.
So the ratio goes:
Rich lady= <1%
Poor Lady=100%
Now, regardless of ratios... I would rather have the rich lady who gives me $100 out of her 100,000,000,000,000,000.............. than the poor lady who gave me her last 3 cents. Wouldnt you?
I see your point. But the fact of the matter is.. I would be very surprized if Greece in -actual dollar amounts- gives more than we do, annually.

Oh... and if you want to talk about "how much money we have"
We dont have _any_ to be giving away anymore. Thus the purpose of MF post.
If you want to break it down into 'ratios' and 'in a sense' ...
...then 'in a sense' -people OWE US money!

Just this morning on the way to work I heard the news on the radio. They cut in a exerpt from a news person interveiwing a guy that had his wife towed away by water while he was trying to hold on to her hand.
We get lots of news about US disasters.
At the end of the news was the statement about how the radio station had set up a way to donate easier on its web site. Canadian people will send help as they always do for this kind of thing.

Lol.... no, Canadians are cool.
I think the US 'fights' with Canada like we were brothers... no hard feelings. We've just 'lived together' for so long.. we have to bust eachothers balls
