are there any modems out right now that can handle 1000mbps? it may be a retarded question (i dont have any idea). but my motherboard has an Intel PRO/1000 MT ethernet and can take speeds up to 1 gig. but everytime i plug my ethernet into it from my modem (Linksys BEFCMU10 v3.0 (http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?childpagename=US%2FLayout&packedargs=c%3DL_Product_C2%26cid%3D1115416831827&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper) ) it stops the connection. (i think its because the lan is trying to force 1000 mbps and the modem can only handle 100 (or 10 of course).
any clues????

Gigabit LAN is way more bandwidth than you're gonna get with any Cable or DSL. If my math is right 512MB/s comes out to about 4Mbit. Gig NICs are more for high speed local networks, but it's supplanting 100Mbit as the new standard just like 100 supplanted 10Mbit.

basically, i use the program that came with my mobo for fucking with netwrok connections. i use an intel pro/1000 mt. the prgram lets you monitor your connections, rn diagnostics change speeds, and a bunch of other crap.
with the speed, you can select auto negotiate best speed (default, which i use),10mbps hlaf or full dupelx, 100mbps half or full, or auto negotiate 1000mbps. when i try to auot 1000 it just stops connecting. the link led and the activity led (both on screen ) shut off.i lose internet connection, and th ethernet led and activity led on my modem go dead. the led inside the pr1000 onboard my pc goes dead too. if i change it back to auto negotiate best speed, and reconnect in my network places it works again.

thanks

okie dokie, thats because the router cannot handle the gigabit speeds, sec and ill search for some links for ya see if there is one, IT PROBABLY WONT be faster since cable is 5mb-8mb at most and it probably will be fairly expensive
