long story short, i need a job.
well i have spent a month jobless and applying everywhere. and havent heard shit til today. interview tomorrow for a camp counselor job for punk teenagers.
or
then i get an email today, from the Senior QA lead for Dungeon & Dragons Online at Turbine, Inc. (They made asherons call one and two, dungeons and dragons online, and theyre making the first mmorpg for lotr, LOTR online, shadows of angmar. they work with atari and vivendi for publishing their games.)
so im setting up an interview with him to be quality assurance test associate for D&D online. The only problem is its a three to nnine month contract, 40+ hours a week, meaning school starts in the spring (januray) and i will not be able to go.
so i need help. i really want to get into the game industry, but i NEED to go to college. im 21 and i could do this for a the length of the contract, then go to school later. and get back into the industry. or i could pass, go to school and try to get in later. but i dont know how often these opportunites come along.
does anybody know anything that could help me?????

Take the opportunity.
If you cant work a 40 hr week and go to school you need to be shot.
You can easily pull a 5 class semster and a 40 work week.
Get your head in the door. Take the job. It sounds fun, a cake job, and again fun.
DO IT!

Yeah if the job ends up being a day job (which most are) goto school i nthe evening hours. io and I pulled a fulltime school schedule while working 40 hours a week. Leaves no home time during the weekdays but you still have the weekends, of course that depends on the job.

Phenix, if you do not take the job I will find a way out of Iraq and END YOU. I made a huge mistake during college and ended up taking down someone else with me. I went broke before I realized what I really wanted to do and I ended up in the AF. You have been offered my dream job. Take this opportunity and enjoy it; networking (meeting people, not designing LANs) can get you a job faster than a degree ever will.

i would suggest taking the job and then going to school part time for that semester. Just take the classes that are available at night. That way you dont lose the entire semester or the job. The best of both worlds.
I worked three jobs in college, all part time. There were a few semesters that I only took 8-12 credit hours.

I was gonna say that.
Think about it this way: you're in college so you can get a job.. but if you're offered a job before you even finish college, in the industry that you're hoping to get into anyway, then you would be crazy to pass it up.
You might finish school a few years later than you would otherwise, but by then you'll have solid experience in your industry, and will be waaaay above all other applicants fresh out of college with "flipping burgers at McD's" in the work experience part of their resumes.
Go for it or die!!

so the interview went well. just got back. interviewed by four different guys, and they all seemed cool. talked to the senior guy about CS for like 15 minutes.
says hes a p90 master.
anyway, the onyl thing that may bring me down is my lack of Dungeons and Dragons knowledge, since this beta test is for the new DDOnline game. afterwards si lord of the rings, and he said id do well with that one. but we'll see if he calls me back. if so, looks like long ass hours starting right off the back.
ill keep everyone up to date.
