I was at cnn.com earlier and I wanted to share something with you guys and maybe get some input back. It says here (http://www.cnn.com/2005/TECH/space/09/19/red.planet.inc.ap/index.html) that this company 4Frontiers is raising money to colonize mars. I've known this was gonna happen for awhile. I figured we might go for the moon first, but just as well. NASA is also planning a trip to the moon by 2020 so maybe that will be underway as well. Here is what I think that future will be:
Colonies on the moon by the time I'm 35 (i'm 22 now)
Colonies on Mars by the time I'm 50
Old age will be cured. We won't necessarily be immortal but we will have an incredible life-span.
My body will be adandoned and my conciousness will be put into a mist that can be solidified by my psychic abilities. Just in case of a large wind. Many people will do this and there will be a rift between us. The red(bad) mist and the white(good) mist will be in a conflict which will be known later on as the Great Mist Wars. I'm a white mist. I'm a general in the white mist army. We get more power when people believe in me but that is what my spider-bot is for. He has a belief ray that gives me more power than any other mist entity. There will be many casualties in the Great Mist Wars.
No I'm not on drugs. It would make more sense if I was though. So what do you guys think will happen in the future?

Either the aliens will get us first or will blow ourselves up and destroy all living beings on planet earth
I'm an optimist!!

Mother Nature will continue to throw us huge ass storms.... They'll get bigger and bigger as the year progress... We'll kill off earth and earth will kill us off. Mar would be nice tho.

invest in "ogmented reality" and artificial intelligence. if you can invest in a startup of wither one of those concepts take the initiative. when i get rich im gong to give money to SETI(search for extra-terrestrial intelligence) so that when we find concrete evidence for intelligent life on other planets i can be in on the discovery. other than that....our dependancy on fossil fuels will push the world into energy shortages and new "green" parties will take majority control over the government. after all is said and done humans as a species will be better off.

i actually studied some of this kinda shit at university..
A few conclusions I came to:
1. We will not find another sentient species for a looong time (several thousand years or more)
2. If we do not destroy ourselves within the next 100 years, we will have colonies all over solar system.
3. from 2, I think we will colonize the rest of our galaxy in about 100,000 years
4. while accomplishing 3, we will become a class 2 civilization - we'll be able to harvest 100% of the power output of our sun. We should meet some sentient species by this time.
5. From here, we'll eventually (several million years) be able to harvest the power output of our whole galaxy.
All of the above is plan A
Plan B: we will realize that galactic expansion is pointless and we'll become a civilization of philosophers and artists, living only on Earth, most likely spending most (if not all) of our time in virtual reality, with robots to take care of all our physical needs. From here we might become 'brains in a vat' - we won't need our physical forms except for the brain when we know enough about human physiology
fun times all around!

well think about how far we've come in 100 years...from horse drawn wagons to cars that have over 1000 hp. going to the moon, finding cures for shit loads of diseases that were a huge problem back then...what does the next huncred have in store for us?

We're going backwards at this point dude. The 1st time we went to the moon it took us about 8 to 9 years to get there and we were starting from scratch. Now we have a huge space program, and it's going to take us 14 years to get back to the moon? What the fuck is wrong with that equation?

i just think its a big dream... thats all. im all for it, if we have the capabilities to do it, fine.... when we first went to the moon, it wasntbecause of purely scientific reasoning...
we had to beat the russians into space, etc. now, its not thats important for us to do it..

To take that one step further... our universe is not a perfect vacuum, so we will eventually harverst ALL of the energy... the only solution is to re-collapse our universe to form a perfect vacuum with more blackholes..... Manifold Time for the win!! (its a book, search it, read it, love it)

i thought the universe was already being sucked into the ultimate black hole.
Or something like that. But wait, didnt Stephen Hawkins come out recently and say he was wrong all along?
I cant keep up!

universe is expanding.. eventually all the galaxies and star systems will fall apart, everything will be floating around in the vacuum on its own.. all the stars will burn out, it'll be perfectly dark
This is when CC will come out of retirement and start sodomizing unsuspecting victims

no i thought it was the the galaxies were expanding and moving. They eventually run into each other and when they do, the black hole is created. This is going on now in the universe and all galalxies will eventually grow large enough and move into each other until, at last, all is sucked into a final and last blackhole

It expands and contracts...
The rate of expansion is greater than rate of contraction. all the galaxies are moving away from each other, while also expanding internally. Some galaxies can and do collide with each other due to them all spinning at varied speeds around universal center.. but generally things are getting further and further apart.
The only hope for us right now is if the dark matter has some unknown property that will reverse the expansion when it gets to some critical point and universe collapses instead, eventually jamming everything into a tiny particle of immense pressure, which will explode and cause another big bang, starting it all over again.

That to me sounds like a reasonable explanation... cycles.. always in cycles.

I guess that is one theory. I was refering to Stephen Hawkins theory and it said nothing about a giant bang at the end. He was talking about black holes.
I'm sure there are many schools of thought on it and none of them are probably correct. lol
Im with LaRoacha, we're really just an ant farm.
