I really hope they fixed this game a bit since I played it because it was total ass about five months ago. Like don't-even-waste-your-bandwidth-and-do-that-to-the-cable-company type of ass. I mean we're talking haven't-wiped-in-3-weeks type of ass. That type of ass. That's how bad it was.

I have heard of this game for ever almost. I think I first heard of it about 5 years ago. So far I have been able to play about one hours worth, cause no other time have I been able to connect to the servers. It seemed ok though what little I had a chance to do. Reading the game verbage on the web site, it sounds like it could be fun. ..... we will see

I played that game for about 4 months right when open beta started in February. The game has some interesting ideas, but I don't think it will ever get off the ground. It's a first person shooter RPG. The FPS part of it sucks and you really only win a fight if you get the jump on someone and/or your latency is better. The rest of the game is mostly politics, which I don't care for. I wish them the best of luck and all, but I don't see it going very far, plus the developers, mostly Marko from Duplex Systems, have been working on this thing for 3 or 4 years already and have overhauled it several times. Just before I left they replaced the entire UI and graphics engine entirely after saying they'd never do it.

Well,

I played the game a bit, managed to get some cash and begin my mining efforts. I had killed my first character and started again. This time I managed to figure out what was going on somewhat. I had done many missions, which is the way to get cash. The mission system is baddly broken, so it was very hard to make any progress. (players had to make missions for other players to do, so there were not always something to do there).

They had just fixed some of the missioning things, and now the system would generate them. I was on the Moon Base, doing missions, I had done a couple and was working on my third. Mining some metal and transfering it to the faction pool. While I was waiting on a mission to complete, four guys come up. They are dressed all in armor and have guns drawn.

"Pay or Die" was the words I got. While trying to explain that I have no cash and I am a noob, they say "we got to feed our families" and kill me then and there. First off I can not give them cash because I can not trade, because I was not high enough rank to trade, because the missions were not giving the xp.

The cost of dieing in this game is horrendous. Like I would have to play for 3-4 or more hours to recover from that. I had no choice in the battle.

Not sure what the developers are thinking with this one. No one will play if the cost of death is so high. The fact I have no choice in PvP, is the end of considering this game for real play.

The economics seem interresting, and the progression and crafting look cool too. Just if I am going to test a game, is it not done better when I can actually play, and not have to look over my shoulder all the time fearing death.

So, I will not recommend this game to anyone.

It sounds like they changed a few things. First off make sure you get clone insurance so you don't permadie, if they still have it. Otherwise when you run out of clones that's it, you're character is gone forever. The mission system has been broken since the game started. The way I made money was by producing items mainly. Missions were a waste of time as far as I was concerned. I would make mostly armor, medkits, and ammo. The last time I logged in I think I had about 1.5M Credits, which is partly why it was boring. I had more than I knew what to do with. Buying armor and ammo was pointless because you die very quickly, which just frustrates you because of what it costs to heal up again and re-equip.

Then like you just pointed out, there are gankers who like to just wander around from city to city killing people for the shear fun of it, and to loot whatever you drop.

I got more infuriated than anything playing that game. I would refuse to carry anything on me except what I needed unless I planned on going fighting.

Towards the end I got up to rank 6 in the Asian Coalition, 1 rank away from the top. It was more work than play. I had to make campaigns and missions to keep the lower ranks busy, which half the time no one would finish the missions anyway so it was a waste of my time. Then I'd set up my bulk mining/production processes, which would take a day or 2 to finish. So after that it's basically waiting around until they're done so I can set up the next day long production step.

Good times.

Was this the game where they claimed you would feel as if the character was more of an extension of yourself, rather than someone/thing you were controlling?

If so, it sounds like they did their job.

If not, please disregard my idiotic comment,... I just feel like talking

I think that was Project Entropia.

FOM is the FPS / Political / Mining / Production simulator.
