View Full Version : Runes of Guild Wars

Ok, soooo long story short - I have been trying to figure out how to make my Warrior/Monk pretty much as 'bad ass' as I possibly can. I have recently been informed (and actually possibly informed prior to this) about the use of runes. Apparently, you can not use a rune of the same type on more than one peice of Armor.
For example:
Right now, I have 1 rune of Superior Swordsmanship, 2 runes of Major vigor, and 2 runes of major absorption.
Ultimately, with the way I have things set up, I really only have Superior Swordsmanship, Major Vigor, and Major absorption... and nothing else... and they are not 'doubling up'
I private messaged Sckoarn about this, and he brought up a good point about bringing this topic to the forums.
So, my question still remains... are there even enough runes out there to occupy all of the 'slots' to use them in (IE, are there 5 different runes I can use) simultaneously?
I know, in my case, I could have swordsmanship, vigor, strength, and absorption.... which still leaves one 'open slot' ... what can I put here that will be usefull to me without having to switch weapons or anything like that?
Any information you all can supply me with would be greatly appreciated...

Depends on what this character is going to be used for. You COULD put a minor tactics rune there to allow yourself the use of perhaps a better shield, but without knowing your character's purpose or your attribute distribution, there's not much we can say. IMO, if you want to kick ass as in dishing out decemt damage, then lose the sword and grab a hammer or axe and go smite. If you want to kick ass as in farm 10 creatures at the same time and take barely a scratch then maybe tactics and protection are for you. I'm sure shit's been changed so what sucked in my time may not suck for yours. But the short answer to your question is there's only a tactics rune that can go in the 5th slot now.

yeah, i have 5 different ruins on my elementalist character...
one for vigor of course and then 4 others for the different elems i use....
i change them all the time, so im pretty much straight, whatever i use.,...
neb i think all those majors and superiors u use is affecting your health..... perhaps you sell one of the majors and get a minor instead...
can anyone thats knowledgable on this subject reiterate please?

Yup,
Good thing to do is put in a minor of some sort. I find Axes are good damage, I do not play my W/Mo much at all. Never really looked at how much monk stuff I could use, I am all Axe damage output.
So, yes, determaining the purpose your War will fill, kinda tells you what skills and runes will be best.
Good to hear Raven may join us!
Thats odd...
I used my Chaos Axe for a while and had alot of decent skills but it seems that I do MUCH more damage with my sword. With final strike I can hit them for 100+ damage and my other skills work very well. Not to mention swords have a higher "low" damage in other words my axe is 6-28 but my sword is 15-25 I think (its max damage on both weopans).
Now I did just get a elite skill for my axe that I might need to look into. I want my warrior to do the most damage...so you guys think I should change back to the axe? I have 16 in Swordsmanship and 11 in strength and 5 in healing.

I am basically going for a _decently_ strong warrior who has no problems taking care of (her)self.
Perhaps Tactics would be a good rune to get... I'll put a minor rune of tactics on my boots, and be done with it.
Basically, the way I am set up is half warrior, half monk. I cast mending on myself all the time so I constantly have +3 health regen. I also cast vigorous spirit, which gives me 9 health every time I swing my sword. I then do my elite skill or Warriors Endurance, where... again, every time I hit an enemy with melee attack I get 3 energy. Then once all of this is done, I have enough energy (while fighting) to cast some sword skills I have, like seeking blade and power attack. Pretty much, as long as I am constantly fighting something, I leave the battle without a scratch, and plenty of magic.
Thanks guys,.. I appreciate the insight.

If it is PvP, most war use Hammers, some axes and not many swords. KD is a killer for a caster. Hammers seem to do the best knock downs.
One thing I like about axe is the spin attack. This lets you do damage to more than one target. For PvE it is great for getting agro.
Hammers are seemingly too slow in PvE.
Again I do not play my war much.

Interesting stuff there Skoarn.....I do love that spin attack your talken about with the Axe but I just seem to do AMAZING damage with my sword along with a inturpt spell and Final Strike my warrior does some great damage....
Also everyone knows about the 30 extra attribute points right? One quest is in the desert the other you have to do one of the quests to change your second profession in the desert and then go back and talk to a girl in Drok's Forge to do a quest near Copper Hammer.

I started out using a Sword on my warrior. I loved the speed but I was not happy with the total amount of damage output.
I changed to Axes to control the mobs and to "try" to keep them off the casters. The spin attack definitely keeps the mobs on you. Thank goodness for a great healer :)
I use runes of strength, absorption, vigor, axe, and tactics.
I tried hammers in PVE and I hated it. The weapon is extremely slow and does not have the mob control that the Axe has in its skill set.
Ultimately, it's about what you like to play. If you like Swords, stick with it. Just balance it with a great shield and keep a friendly healer around to cover your tushy :)

bad deal:
Any two superior runes sans vigor and a crappy party.
-health plus serious DP equals a cheap date.
One, two hits, and I('m) put out...
