*edit: Fuck that...I don't even meet the min requirements and don't really care. I already know my rig is slow by todays standards. Shit, it's over two years old.

I would like to run it.

Last year my machine was a beast.

This year, I will probably get like 30.

and remember...a handicap parking sign does not signify that this spot is for handicapped people. It is actually in fact a warning, that the spot belongs to Chuck Norris and that you will be handicapped if you park there.*

hark hark hark, it just tests how good your video card and PC is, higher the score, the better

L1veUndead
01-23-2006, 11:23 PM
Every year a new 3DMark program comes out.

Basically its a benchmarking program to see how strong your PC is. It test your video performance, your PC performance, and stress test to see how well your PC stacks up to the gaming of today.

Low scores indicate outdated material in your PC such as Low Ram, Video Cards, Processor, or the speed of your PC in general.

If your dick gets hard about how well your PC performs then 3DMark is a ritualistic thing for you. If you could give a flying fuck then its just something to see where you sit.

3Dmark 2k4 I was at the top of the stack. My PC has grown a little old since then so we will see how I stack up to the power PC's of today.

dont bother with SLi, only good with synthetic benchmarks (3dmark, hl2 stress test etc..), and putting together a godlike machine isnt that expensive, i put mine together for under 1000 and i have a dual core 3.0Ghz @ 3.7GHz, 1GB OCZ 667MHz DDR2, SLi mobo, 2x120GB SataII HDs, 16x DVD burner, geforce 7800 gt'oc

3D Mark isn't bad for an overall benchmark of performance, but it's all synthetic benchmarks. It's hard to get any real meaning out of the numbers you get from them. You'd probably notice more benchmarking the framerate of the games you play and what graphics settings you use for them, or the performance any other processor-intensive programs you use.

all my parts are in except the freaking towers!!!
I know the towers are in town from the tracking number but the they have not been delivered and I cant get the freaking UPS that is holding them to answer the god damn phone. It just rings and rings and rings. What kind of freakin' business doesnt answer their phone????

I think I'm going to drive out there and bust some heads. I want my freakin' towers.........NOW!!

Sammie
02-23-2006, 12:31 AM
I never did get those jack asses to answer the phone.
In a desperate hope that I might be able to obtain the towers (that I knew had been sitting at the UPS for over 24 hours) I drove all the way across town in 5 o'clock traffic just to have some zit faced kid tell me that the towers would not be unloaded until tonight :(
I went home empty handed.

Tomorrow victory will be mine!!

haha!! NOT IF I HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH IT!!!!!!

I just got an email this morning confirming my computer case has been sent 2nd day air, fed ex. It is the last part I am waiting for to build my new rig... everything else is sitting on a table in my 'dining room.'

Although Sammie, you did go with the Radeon X1900XT... which makes me like, hella jealous... That card is probably a monster. I got my X1800XT in the other day, and that thing is like 1/3 the side of my motherboard along with a HUGE ASS copper heat sink and fan mounted on it.

Sammie
02-23-2006, 05:15 PM
hell yea that card is a monster

We opened all our little goodies last night even though we had no tower to put them in.
The card was so freakin heavy and has a HUGE ass fan on it.
We both just starting laughing when we saw it.

We did plug our monitors in last night and I have to say I'm very impressed.
I went from a 19 inch analog CRT to a 19 inch ditgital LCD. I was worried about the LCD because I have friends that have them and I've never been all that impressed. Usually they are dark and kind of washed out looking to me. But this monitor is really really bright and the colors are sharp and brillant. And I have not even put it to the new rig yet.

The towers came in today so I'm about to get busting on building this rig. I cant wait.
Its like Christmas over here. The living room is filled with boxes of goodies!!! And I'm like the kid at Christmas morning grinning from ear to ear :D

Best buy or comp USA. Do you have a comp USA near you?

We are so lucky here (with our computer needs) There is best buy, and literally across the street (its more of like a road that seperates two parking lots) there is Comp USA. You can compare prices, and if one doesnt have it - the other probably does.

yea sys that adapter should have come with the vid card in an idea world but when i went back to look at the vid card info, it clearly states that it doesnt include it and since my power supply wasn't pci express I definately needed it.

ok here's the deal

there is only one 12v pci exp adapter in town and we need two

the other issue is that an adapter could possibly, but not necessarily, hender the vid card performance.

That is not a risk I'm willing to take. After all the video cards are the most expensive components in the entire machine. So, I searched all over town and found one place that carried pci express ready power supplies (550w) and I'm off to purhase them.

In hind sight I should have gotten the pci power supplies to begin with but it never even occurred to me that i would be plugging my video card directly into the power supply.

Poof* There goes another $240 bucks. Vanished into thin air

hey! anybody need a 500 watt power supply on the cheap?

Holy shit.

I might have to get the same. I noticed a strange plug on the back side of my PCI video card, and I am assuming that is what you are talking about. Some one claimed that was for the crossfire, but perhaps it is the power to the board. I too, just purchased a new 500W power supply for my other desktop, which does not have any kind of PCI express power line, if you will. That is really shitty................. blah.

Sammie
02-24-2006, 10:46 AM
yup, i do believe we are talking about the same thing

there is a seperate plug for the cross fire if you wanted to run 2 vid cards but the main card requires a direct connect the power supply regardless of whether or not you are using the 2 card set up

Dumbasses did you not read any review that said you needed an SLI ready power supply? that equipment is not supposed to come with your motherboard or your video card unless either specifies. i have some of those molex to pci e power adapters on hand somewhere. But I would recommend to get a seasonic st-12 600 power supply, should be 120 dollars and if you order from new egg you should get it fairly fast.

Sammie, it looks like you and I have similar agendas tonight. What did you mean limited as far as drive space? Do you mean like.... where the CD Rom/DVD Rom goes? or actual hard drive mounting places? Either way I only have two of each... I think I'll be ok... I hope... I think.

confirmed: the power supply was no good
and they didnt have another one like it on hand

the only other pci-e options were a 480w for 72 bucks and a 600 watt for $180
I didnt want to go lower than 500w and I didnt want to spend $180.
They did have the pci-e adapter. only one. so i got it
going to hook that up for now to the other 500w so its up and running for the weekend for less than 12 bucks and then I'll probably go back and get the other power supply when they have it back in stock on Monday.

Yes but we were arguing wattages not what sorts of connectors you need. The only thing I thought to look for was SATA connectors. I was also unaware of special PCI-E connectors because I haven't had to deal with those yet. Next system I guess I will.

Well, live and learn eh?

I am blown away at the difference in image quality
I was going to post some pics of how unbelievable GW looked
But I had to alter the pics in my old rig
When I loaded them on my old system I knew it wasnt even worth posting
The same pics looked nothing like the ones on this computer
Same pic but completely different depth from one system to the other
You truly have to see it to believe it
And since I have a side by side comparison its even more evident.

Looking forward to a run in source
