Once again researchers are saying that computer gaming may possibly be addicting. It depends on your definition of "addicting."

"When you apply those criteria to something like Internet use or video game use, you find that, yeah, lots of people display some of those components, but very few display all of them, and in that sense, to me, they are not classically addicted," said professor Mark Griffiths, who studies behavioral addictions at Nottingham Trent University in Nottingham, England.

Its funny how computers, gamers, etc are always under such harsh scrutiny. To me, computers are my hobby. I listen to music, play games, make graphics, do videos, etc.... The computer has been so dynamic in its capabilities, its hard for some one who is as facinated in technology as myself to not be interested in it. An addiction? Maybe... but its more like a hobby. People dont look at any other hobbiest and say "man... they are really addicted."

The public that arent gamers see us as people who piss our lives away on an addiction like any other addiction.

However we also get the brunt of our "awful" games making us all psychotic and taking the world down in an apocalyptic wrath.

It's better for me to run around shooting people in a game then actually go do it in real life. I don't see how it is addicting but then again there are those that are addicted to gambling, what's the difference there? Big difference, one is throwing money away and ruining your life but computers could do the same if that's all you do is play games and not go out, not having a job, etc. My little bro would be on the computer 24/7 if it wasn't for my parents. I have to sit in front of a computer atleast 40 hours week for my job, like alot of us do.... What happens when I get home and on my days off, I'm in front of the damn computer again. Not sure if you can call it addicting for the fact I don't _need_ my computer and like Nebula said, it's more of a hobby. It becomes 'addicting' when it interfers with your everyday living. (IE: Get fired from job because of tardiness/not showing due to gaming, no social life, murdering the pizza delivery boy because you couldn't pay the power bill, etc)

I would have to admit that having my computer taken away would be pretty painful

I was without a computer in Ireland for 2 weeks. It wasnt bad but there was plenty else to do. Besides, I knew I was coming home soon and I could play aorund on my own computer whenever.

But if I was at my own house and had no access to a computer, it would definately be painful. I dont think I would have DT's or anything but I certainly wouldnt like it.

I guess its like smoke. I dont need it everyday and I go days without touching it but as soon as I'm out of it, it becomes a bit uncomfortable.
I dont need it, but I like to know that its there if I want it.

Wow, who really gives a flying fuck? Computers and video games can be about as addictive as anything else. It all depends on the individual. Why cant these asshats write an article about people who are addicted to spit wads. Get off my computers cock, bitches.
