In Athens, Ohio, there’s a police dog being sued in a court of law. The alleged “rogue cop” in question is Andi, a K-9 used by the Athens County Sheriff’s Department. County Prosecutor C. David Warren said the case is a first. No one can remember a dog being singled out as a defendant. Warren has volunteered to handle Andi’s defense personally.

“That dog could’ve done something to me or one of my attendants,” said Wayne Francis Green, 46, of Albany, who filed the suit last fall in Athens County Common Pleas Court. Mr. Green was apparently unaware of the fact that “might have done something” isn’t necessarily grounds for legal action. Green, unlike Andi, is representing himself in the case. Green claims that a search of his furniture business in 2003 was illegal. He says officers also went into an adjacent building that he owned without a warrant. Police dispute that claim. So why is this guy suing a dog?

Green told the local media it’s because he was scared. “They’ve got a mean ol’ dog, you know what I’m saying? I take that pretty serious,” Green said, adding, “I’m a dog lover, but that’s the limit.” The search turned up 50 pounds of marijuana, and last month Green was convicted of possession and trafficking in the drug. Green’s lawsuit, which seeks $450,000 in damages, also was filed against police investigators, Athens County Sheriff Vern Castle and the trial judge who ruled that the marijuana was admissible as evidence.

Several months ago, Andi the German shepherd was informed that he’s being sued. He took the news in stride and acted almost as if he didn’t understand the complexities of the American system of jurisprudence. With a paw print, the dog “signed” the paper indicating he had been formally served with the complaint. Green said he wants prosecutors to look into the dog’s actions. “I want him charged with several different felony counts.” Good luck with that, buddy.

In Milton, Florida, a deputy found himself standing face to face with a bear as he searched for a prowler. Luckily for the deputy, he came equipped with a Taser. Homeowner Charlie McQueen Smith called the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Department early in the evening after finding her air conditioner torn from her kitchen window. Deputy Ray Dykes responded to the call thinking he was looking for a prowler. "When I pulled up, I saw the reflection of an animal's eyes. It looked like a little bear cub," he told reporters. "I got to about 40 feet and it stood up, and that's when I knew it was fully grown." Dykes used his Taser gun when the bear got too close for comfort. "He was about seven or eight feet away when I shocked him," Deputy Dykes said. Dykes said the bear fell to the ground, breaking the connection with the weapon, which administers a strong electrical charge. The animal then collected itself before fleeing into the woods. Mrs. Smith said she's lived in the home since it was built in 1960 and had never seen a bear there before the incident. The bear visited several times over the weekend, and Smith suspects the smell of fried chicken might have enticed it to try and come inside, adding that a trash pit near the home might also have been a lure.

ya its funny when someone tries to sue a police dog, but when a police dog gets shot by someone and that person goes to prison for shooting a so called "officer" what is really more funny there?

The courts look at this way. The dog is used in situations that are more dangerous than usual and are to keep officers out of harms way. If someone kills a police K9 it could of been a human, so the law accounts for that.

I don't think the dog will have much of a problem. I'm sure he'll be provided with a top-notch lawyer, as the plantif is representing himself.

The second story is pretty funny. I'm glad nobody got hurt. On a side note...I live in Milton, FL.

wonder if hell take the stand.
Whats his defense "I was trying to sniff his balls. I like to sniff balls." Didnt work for Tucket, wont work for this dog.

OR

his defense is

"Bow, woof woof, bow, ARF!"
which DOES work for Tucks mom, in my bed, so it might work for this dog

No offense Jethro, love ya and all, don't know what your point of view on that is. I'm glad using dogs saves peoples lives, and I hope they continue to do so, but treating an animal as a human in the way of laws is a little absurd. It seems kind of like this situation, I have a doll, now that doll is being put in a situation that a human "could" be put into. Now I rip the dolls head off. Since the doll was replacing a human life I just commited murder. a better example would be Charging the people that use Test dummies in cars to make our automobiles safer with the murder of every one of those test dummies, since they are replacing humans.

A little more goes into then that. The punishment is for hurting a police K9 is also veiwed as a determent (sp?). I know a dog is less than a human life. I would send a K9 into a situation before me any day.

So the penalty is more along the lines of destruction of government property?

Is the punishment worse for punching a cop or punching the drunk fucker sitting next to you? Its suppossed to deter you and help protect the officer.

You know Jethro its crazy...Dogs are used in more intense situations to deter potential deadly situations, and when the dogs do get hurt they are treated and respected as an Officer not just a dog. I saw a dog that got like the purple heart or something for saving his Police Trainers Life. The dog took a Bullet in the Neck for his partner. The dog got buried with an american flag and all that Jazzy stuff. I think the use of dogs in the Police Force is def. warranted in some situations.

These stories are very intresting. Do you have anymore?

That guy is lucky that the bear didnt get back up and attack him. I could see that situation going one of two ways....

Its stupid how that guy is trying to get away with suing the dog, simply because he is afraid of it. It sounds like the guy is just trying to find an excuse to get out of his (x) amounts of Marijuana that was found in his house.

Police Impersonator Arrested

Angel Garcia used to be a one-man “war on drugs.” But that was before everyone realized the crusader wasn’t actually law enforcement, and was just playing the role in order to rob drug dealers of their cash and narcotics. Garcia, 24, of Dorchester, frequently played the role of police officer when he would cruise low-income parts of Boston looking for dealers to rob. Garcia carried a .45 cal Winchester automatic and told those he ripped off he was an undercover police officer or a federal agent. Garcia has yet to be charged with impersonating an officer of the law but sources close to the investigation say he will be eventually. Garcia was stopped by two real Boston cops who were on the lookout for Garcia’s red Ford Taurus, which was outfitted with flashing red lights and several police scanners.Garcia had run a red light and was spotted by other units driving erratically.

One Way To Pay Your Bills

In LaCrosse, Wisconsin, investigators defrosted a body encased in ice after a man told police during a standoff that his mother was in his basement freezer. After the man surrendered police found the chest-type freezer and chipped ice away until they found a human leg.

Police say they had to use a skid loader to get the massive freezer out of the home in the town of Campbell which is just outside La Crosse, Wis.

"We don't even know if it's his mother yet," Latva told reporters from the Associated Press. "A leg is in ice. We have not made any identification yet.” “There's a lot that remains to be done in terms of examining the body and investigating the situation before we can draw any conclusions," La Crosse County District Attorney Scott Horne said.

He went on to say that investigators were examining different financial motives, to determine whether there may have been any benefit to concealing the body.

Neighbors said they hadn't seen the man's mother, for two years or more. Some said the man had told them his mother had taken up residence in a nursing home.

According to his neighbors, the man was known to walk around in a coat and wader-style rubber boots, even in warm weather. Police say the suspect has been unemployed for 20 years.

The discovery in the freezer capped a 15-hour standoff when the man took refuge in his home. Authorities said he shot and wounded a neighbor who had come to confront him for allegedly hitting the neighbor's 10-year-old son. The neighbor was treated at a hospital and released.

Sgt. Lee Schmitz said the man was being held for attempted homicide in the shooting and concealing a corpse.

thats retarded that animals (dogs) get a purple heart or american flag buried with them, etc. ... they're animals, not real people.

thats why the send them into potential dangerous situations, to hopefully defuse it... and it puts the human police officer at less of a risk...

yea ive seen k-9 or turner and hooch or whatever and i like dogs, and id take love it like it were a real partner... but dont go overboard.///

Why should a animal getting a purple heart annoy you? They might be animals but they are also law enforcement officers. Trivializing them by saying they are just animals is ignorant.

no its not.

its plain and simple. they're animals.

put here on the earth for us to consume, etc.

you dont get married to an animal.
animals dont serve you at the local taco bell (heh)
animals dont do your banking.

humans are THE beings of this planet...

dogs are used in police work simply to avoid an injury or a death to a human police officer..

i guess all im saying is... they're just animals.. theres no need to award them medals and give them a 21 gun salute.. whatever...

I am not so sure they are just animals.

I know animals have emotions and personalities.

I know some animals can communicate with humans in complex ways.

Humans owe dogs something. They have given us much throughout history and prehistory.

My neighbors family used to care for retired police dogs. The cops were very attached to thier dogs and would visit frequently.

If I am a K-9 police officer and I come into a situation where the suspect got the drop on me and is about to kill me, Then suddenly the dog that spends 10+ amount of hours a day with me, the dog I feed, play with, and treat as part of my family gets between me and the suspect and takes the bullet that was meant to end my life. I would give that dog a damn medal.

Because medals arent meant to be awarded so you can say omg look at the medal I got for this, Purple Hearts and such are there just for the fact that those are the best example we have come up with to show our gratitude and respect for the person and or creature that did their duty in the line of duty. People all over the world mourn for their pets that die everyday, but if that pet saved your life by sacrificing its own, the least we could possibly do is show our respect in a form of a medal

Think about the medal of honor, VERY RARELY will someone ever receive that award alive, The dead dont care about the medal, they cant go home and post it on their wall, Its rewarded because its the best form of Respect and Gratitude we can show to that person, so by giving a K-9 dog a Purple Heart, we are simply showing our gratitude for that animal dying so that we can live to see tommorrow

You say animals are put on this earth for us to eat... Says who... You are assuming I buy into your whole "Humans are exceptional and special" bullshit..

Just because they arent as inherantly smart as we are doesnt make them less then us.. If they were tasty and worth eating I might agree but I dont..

Seriously, just because we have opposable thumbs we are special?

I like a good steak, and a good chicken wing... I wouldnt eat a dog though..

Like the old arguement, only eat dolphin safe tuna.. Why? Cause dolphins are cute and tuna isnt...

I am going to just lay off by saying I think dogs are more intelligent then normal animals.. and that LEO Dogs SHOULD be considered LEO...
I know youll come back with something like "French chicks got hairy pits" or "I fucked your mother"... But I dont give a shit.. Having a inteligent conversation here is like fuckin your sister.. Good shes a hot peace of ass with a great set of tits, but its illegal...

Or to steal from Waiting...
You win Tucket, your the coolest guy in GNG.. And saying your the coolest guy in GNG is like saying your the smartest guy with Downs Syndrome..

Well JB there is a line that should be crossed with your pets. I'm a dog lover. I have a lab/chow mix and she is the best. Listens, stays in the kitchen without needing gates, I can walk her without a leash, stays in the yard (for the most part) without a fence, she finds ways to let us know when she needs to go out, etc. I can tell when she is feeling bad, she can tell when we aren't feeling well. Put it this way, unless she bit you on purpose, no one harms my dog, I'll harm you. Or just kill your dog! She is family, she is part of my family. But like jb said you do NOT see me having her on my lap as I drive around (also she is 75lbs.. heh but I can put a seatbelt on her when she rides in the passenager's seat), feeding her while I eat or at the dinner table for that matter.

BUT, if a dog, could be any dog, saves my life, I'm honored to have such a loyal animal and the dog would deserve something. Especially if the animal was doings it's 'job'. Humans being number 1 priority, I can see that but there are humans out there that are worse then dogs,

christian right wing nut jobs believe that humans are number one b/c they think their god created the entire universe just for them and that everything in it is at their disposal. They believe that everything is created is for them to take advantage of and exploit. They have no reservations about it.

Very self-serving imo.

Get over yourself.

The world wasnt created for you and your petty needs.

Do I think animals are better then humans, or even as good as humans? Shrug, I know theres some people I wouldnt cross the street to piss on if they were on fire.. Then again I wouldnt hug a shark..

Do i think that humans are the #1 priority on earth? I can come up with a smartass remark for either arguement. To be honest I would have to think about it. I would sya in some things yes, in others no.

Its the same thing about food that kills me. Why dont we eat cute animals? What would you think if you died, moved on to whatever "next experience" you believe in and found out that cows were as smart as humans? And we have been eating them for years..
