This is more to show the new Olympus E-500. These haven't been processed, not even crops or rotation, except for shrinking for web viewing. Each file is roughly 200k. Any artifacts are caused by compression. Processed pics are 2 posts down.
This is my favorite. (http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h248/Hae-Yu/NewYorkNewYork-101.jpg) Compression of any kind left jaggies & ghosts, but the original is def a keeper.
I like this one too. (http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h248/Hae-Yu/NewYorkNewYork-124.jpg)
I like this one (http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h248/Hae-Yu/NewYorkNewYork-111.jpg) a lot too. I have quite a few of the Excaliber reflected like that, and I'll probably make a crop of one. The pic needs all kinds of crop/ rotate, but it may come out pretty nice.
Here's a 100% crop (http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h248/Hae-Yu/NewYorkNewYork-111crop.jpg) of the purple smear to the left of the Statue's leg in the previous picture. A 100% crop just means actual size - no Photoshop zooming.
This is (http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h248/Hae-Yu/NewYorkNewYork-081.jpg) with the long lens. Only around 113mm. This is the 100% crop (http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h248/Hae-Yu/NewYorkNewYork-081crop.jpg) of that.

This is what the skyline of Vegas (http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h248/Hae-Yu/NewYorkNewYork-093.jpg) looks like everywhere you turn. New highrises and construction cranes everywhere. Just from that garage, I have pics of 11 new high rises being built. That's just the ones that obviously have big cranes on them. To the left of these I had 2 more.
Here's another one showing (http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h248/Hae-Yu/NewYorkNewYork-063.jpg) 7 new highrises going up (the Playboy one is still very unfinished).
Also no processing here either, except to shrink. Lotta noise though.
When my palsy hands hold the camera still, the clarity just amazes me. I'm really happy with this purchase.

And here's what they looked like after I processed them. They only needed light touches really. These are smaller files too.

Thanks. I had a lot of fun taking these.
I was on the roof of the NY,NY's parking garage. If you click on the 2nd pic in the 1st post, you will see a dark piece of building poking into the frame from the left. That's the stairwells and elevators from the parking garage to the ground - maybe 10' from the ride. I was shooting from that stairwell and the rooftop around it. The excalibur shot was the next stairwell down.

those turned out really well
I've been tempted to delve into another camera but I've been pretty good with my self restraint. Thus far my will power is holding steady but seeing your pics is not making it easy :p

Keep 'em comin' homie!

Thanks for the compliments. The new camera's great and I really love its color. I think it's easier to use than my point n shoot, esp the controls.
Smashley, those cranes are all over. I just read in yesterday's paper that there are 25 highrises being built in town at the moment. The reason there isn't more is because we are using the available supply of big crane contractors in the SW. I don't think any of the crane pictures can be made into keepers though, but they are def a sign of the times here.
Do you use a tripod at night? I cant get my d50 to pull of such great and vibrant night shots yet.

Most of the shots, except the Excalibur were handheld. I may have propped up against a wall or lightpost through.
I use a tripod, but more often than not I use a home-made "bean-bag." The Excalibur was one of those times. I never knew it would be so hard to buy a bean bag, so I filled a big thick sock with a $5 canister of plastic BBs and knotted the sock off.
It absorbs vibrations well and you can prop the camera up at all sorts of angles. It's also easier to carry.

Hmm......I like that idea

That is a good idea. I had never thought of that.
I use a tripod when I can. I have two sizes, a regular full size and a small pocket size. Unfortunatley neither suffice very well. The small one still requires something to rest it on or I'm no better off that not having one at all and the larger one is so big that its makes a theatric demonstration when all im trying to do is take a freaking picture. Besides being obnoxiously large and in the way, its a pain to carry around.

Ha!
If ya'll do decide to make one, it should be the size of a grapefruit to support the camera and lens. I don't know where to buy one, I looked all over. I used 1- or 2000 plastic BBs (Walmart, any sporting store) and an old sock.
You still have the same problems you had with a tabletop tripod - it needs something to rest on - ground, low wall, truck roof/ hood... But it sets up easier on uneven surfaces and you get great odd angles with it.
