Ok,

So I leveled my little caster up to lvl 20. Decided it was time to do my first Obivian Gate. After some 4 hours I got through the nightmare, exiting only once to restock invis potions. Then after that it was time to rescue the guys from the chaple. I had got one of the guards killed by suggesting he stay with me. One had got killed outside. There are only two guards left. So when I enter into the city I am swarmed by 4+ mobs that are the same level as the ones I can conjor. After several tries, including one solo attempt that made it to the chaple, which I made it and cleared it, only to have it repopulate when I go get the guy that HAS to be there, I do not succede. I am not sure what I can do to win that fight, but I have some ideas.

In the mean time, I created another toon, more of a sneek and conjor class. In three hours of play with that new toon I had closed the Gate, recovered the Hire, and got him to cloud moutain. This, all before obtaining level 2. This is the first time playing this type of game that I have NOT wanted to level. Now the story line is taking the game into the endless trying to save the world senario. But it is fun, Im finding it challenging to follow and complete the story line. Now at level 5, the new toon is on his way to kill vampires. Which is cool because I wanted to see what it was like to be a vampire in the game. Only problem is that I picked lizzard race which is 75% resitant to desease, not sure if it will be easy to get him infected.

So after 2 weeks of fairly active play, I am just getting a handle on things. I think it will be fun to replay the game as different classes. Just to see how they perform.

here's a tip I don't know if you already use or not. While in the gates, or any dungeon for that matter, after battles, unless there are enemies nearby, and it will tell you if there are, you can use the wait feature (T button I think) and use it to rest as long as you want. Though after only an hour wait time your health and mana will be fully regenerated I also use this to renew my 1 time daily skills by waiting a full 24 hours.

Just a helpful little hint

Do what david (bob the mighty) does and just run through the Oblivion Gates and grab the sigel stone and then boom your done. Sounds easy but I have yet to do this. Most of the gates to me are mazes, not to hard, but just to start off running around wouldn't work for me because then I have 2567256 mobs on my ass. Now some of them can't open doors, which i think is funny, but some will follow you all the way to the top.

I'm good now tho. I came across some magic arrows. I have (2) different kinds, I have one that does 60 fire dmg in 10 ft for 2 secs and the other does 60 shock dmg in 10ft for 2 secs. Takes 2 or 3 at the most to kill something with these arrows. Some mob boss' may take more. I need more charges, my sword did 22 fire dmg but it's out and I dropped my Soul Trap sword in a place that I can not go back too... =(

Oh yeah right, no way you can just run through them. The one I am in now, my second, is too much of a maze. But then I am only lvl 5 now and still the mobs are not too much to handle, besides there are some good stuff and items in these areas.

It seems I got infected trying to kill the vampires. They are a little too tough for me at the moment. This is where I think the game makes you have to level some to be able to do things like these vampires. Unless there is something I am not thinking of, these guys are very tough compared to other mobs.

Also, with my level 20 caster, I bought the house in Anvil. It is haunted, and so when I tried to sleep in MY house, I got attacked by 3 ghosts. Then there was this message stating that I heard something downstairs on the main level. It was creepy going around a house, which I am supose to own, and having to look out for mobs. It is cool though, there is a quest in there and some kind of portal in the basement. The house was only 5000 gold, and now I have a place to store stuff. Anyone else have a house?

I have two houses... one in the water-side district of the Imperial City, and the other one is up north in I believe the name of it is Burma (but I might be mistaken on the name)

the one up in Burma is SWEET... two stories, and I have it fully 'decorated' ... it didnt stay that way long though.. I started playing with the objects on the tables which, before long, became a fit of me throwing forks/knives/plates/glasses all over the room.

The one in waterside (which is more like a shack with a bed, a table, and a fire place) has an abundance of food/plants/armor/weapons/items thrown all across the floor.. back when I was more active in the theives guild.. I would take EVERYTHING but the kitchen sink (only if there was a kitchen sink! I would probably take that too!!!) ...so it looks really funny.. you cant walk anywhere in that house without kicking things around

Ya Skoarn I bought that house too, the quest for it was pretty tough for me and it took me a few times to beat the last boss down in the basement but it was a lot of fun and was well worth finishing.

So,
It is very easy to become a Vampire. If you have not killed the ones in the story line, you can get yourself infected no problem. My lizzard toon is now a vampire. His color changed and his eye color changed too. Seems he can still walk out in the day light. So that part about vampires must be a mith :) There are many plusses to being vampire, but a weakness to fire of 20. Not sure how I will overcome that. I got a saved copy of before becoming a vampire, so if I really dont like it I can get cured before the transformation. After the transformation, the alters do not cure you. After being infected for two days, when you sleep, for me a second time, you get the message stating you are changed.

Have had zero time to play as a vampire, so have no comments on that part yet.

a couple of days after you get infected the sunlight will start to have a more profound affect. It will stop having the stronger affect at around 5 days after infection, but then you need to feed or you just get weaker, and the more you feed the stronger you get.

yeah I heard the same thing. I have yet try out the vampire thing. I also heard there is a quest you can do to turn yourself back but I heard it was difficult. If you feed you should probably feed on the poor beggers throughout the towns so that way you don't have guards hunting you down.

I will play it out some, see how it goes.

I thought that the feeding thing should have some benifit, but didnt try it yet. Most likely I will look for bandits and pirates to feed on.

Some of the atribute additions are nice. Like 5 defence against non-majic weapons. 5 str, 5 ajl, 5 sneek, 100% poison, disease and a couple others I can not remember.

But, you have to admint it is the most evil of the classes / professions. Not only is he thief, but now a deadly one.

I will report the effects as I XP them.

No one else has gone vampire though right?

I had to, and I know Snk has. The quest to get yourself back to normal really isn't that bad, it only took me maybe an hour or two to complete. After you finish that quest though you can always be provided with the cure soooooo, you can turn yourself into a vampire as many times as you want and have an easy way (just use the map to transport yourself to the persons house in the sticks to get your cure) to change back.

I have to say i'm really impressed with the game. I've been playing off an on for a few weeks. have a few char's between 7 and 10. My wife says it's too realistic for her tastes (after she watched me chase down a wolf and saw him twitching after I sliced him up). I'm playing a custom class Shadowknight, custom class ranger, and a custom caster class, the shadownight is infected vampire and playing Lawful evil, Ranger is playing lawful good and Caster is fairly neutral. It seems no matter the game I can't stick with one char so I end up with 5 or more and level them all.

I played several up to 5 or so while fiddling around with mods and deleted them when I got the game running the way I liked it. I found that it was fairly easy at first so i've installed several realism mods to make levelled lists and quantities of encounters a bit tougher. I've also installed a bunch of aesthetic mods as well. Not as far as I did with morrowind though, I think I had installed over a 100 on that.

One issue I do have with the game though is the HDR lighting, I can turn it on and run a little while and after a short time the view goes black..HUD is still there, just no pic. I'm running a water cooled dual core AMD 3800 with 2 gigs corsair ram on an Asus k8n32 Deluxe SLI with dual PCIe 256mb 7800gts. I've switched out various drivers and settings with always the same result so I've just set it back to bloom lighting and left it there.

I do have to comment on the other post regarding hacks/dupes etc. I have to say that it's pretty weak in single player....in multiplayer of any kind id like to direct the guilty parties to my sig...

Such is my semi-annual post...until next time.

Good to hear from you Monk. Post up more than once a year so everyone knows who you are :) I am not into the tech of tweeking the game, I just am happy to have it up and running. Dam hot rig you got there.

Played my vampire for a while. It gets tough, as being 100% vampire, the sun damage is too much, fire suspetablity is way up there at 40 or 50. It is hard to do anything like even sell stuff because all the venders go to bed about the time you can go outside. Feeding reduces you back to 25 vampire and you can go in the daylight. There are several fairly cool skills you get at different levels of vampireizm. I love the comments about how Im looking sick and should go see a healer heheheh. The movement is crazy fast though with +15 to many skills. I have not played him much while at 100%, it took a bit just to get him there. So will see how long I can go without feeding and see what happens. I look forward to playing this toon up a bit when im bored of normalizm.

After a bit of that, I got tired of having to wait for night, so I picked up the toon at a saved game before becoming vampire, some 5 levels back. Though his is a cool character, just is not quite as fast as the vampire version. Plan to play them up to the same level and have a nice complementry toon set.

Also tried again to get my caster through the rescue part. After an hour and a half, I was unable. The stun staff helped but the mobs are just too high level for the number of NPC guards left (two). I may start her over again.

Just curious, how would you become a vampire after you have killed the 5 that are part of the story line, are there more vapires somewhere else?

Got my non-vamp toon to level 11 and then went and killed the 5 vampires. It was really easy with my 15 flame damage silver sword and my summoned Flame Archan. Also got through the Mage guild test, and got a Sole Capture Staff. I picked that because it seems the stones are needed by lots of stuff, so I better be able to get soles. I managed to capture a few.

Also, the book aquisition task as part of the mage guild entrance. I stole it back and gave it to the woman, she sent me on a nother quest. I stole the book from her too. So I have the book, and the quest she gives you leads to a very powerfull shock spell. So now I have the stupid book and do not know what to do with it. The original chest, it will not let me leave it back there.

I have came across other vampires in the game. In caves or old ruins I have explored I have faught a few. Not sure if they can turn you but I also didn't let them see me. Sneaking in the shadows and picking them off with the bow for the win!

Do you have a green indicator on your compass? This isn't the quest that tells you to goto 'Cloud Top' is it?

Yes,
It is the cloud top mission, "Burning Fingers?".

The spell you get in the end is a 40 point shock spell. Uses more energy than I have.

You need to get one of those Wynard(sp) stones. What you do is go up to cloud top and stand next the the altar/ruins then click on that stone in your inventory. That will complete the quest. But it will kill you because you are confining the energy from you into the stone so you need some sort of resist shock spell. I had a weak spell I picked up from somewhere, can't remember sorry, and it worked. I had less then a quarter of my life left tho when I was done. Shock spells are alteration? I could be wrong but find what spell that is the same class and use it over and over until you get your level up in that area. If any of this is making sense.

Kind of made sence.

I completed it. Before I posted up about it. Just need a stone in your inventory and then cast a "Shock" spell a the alter/stone thing. You do get a jolt, and at lvl 10 I lost half health, or about 50 points. Shock spells are part of the Destruction skill branch.

So, now Im at the part there you have to free the 4 trapped soles in some very old temple the Blades use to occupy. Seems to be going well. I love the item from the killing of the vampires, a reusable sole stone, woooot. Too bad it will have to be part of some ritual later in the game.
