Final Fantasy XII is being released tomorrow, the 31st, for the PS2!!! It's already getting incredible reviews and will be the must-have RPG for the year. IGN says it's one of the few games ever that's actually been worth the wait and lives up to all the hype. The regular price is $49.99 but this week Circuit City will have it for $37.99. This is a GREAT deal!

was there enough hype that it needed to be pre-ordered?

Well it couldn't hurt. The last time I was in Gamestop about 2 months ago the seller saw I was buying an RPG and asked if I wanted to preorder FFXII. I didn't do it though because I knew somebody would have it for less. But the way I see it is this: any company that doesn't order enough copies is just hurting themselves. If I walk into my local Gamestop and they don't have what I want, then I'm going to the competition down the street, and Gamestop just lost my money. So if they're smart, they ordered enough for it not to matter, because they HAVE to know this thing will sell like hotcakes.

I pre-ordered mine just because I have been waiting a year and a half for this fucker to come out.
Picking mine up in about 15 minutes. I already own FF 1 - 10X2, Tactics, and Tactics Advance.
Put another notch in the belt baby.
I wish I had the time to even sit and play it, obviously the game would look fucking orgasmic on my television and surround sound system. And ps3 comes out this month and I have a 2000 dollar bill due on the 3rd... YAY :(

btw!
Walmart has the game on sale already for the release date at 37.99
If you want a strategy guide for the purpose of using, collecting, or etc I recommend picking it up at Gamestop.
I went to Gamestop this morning and picked up the strat guide because I collect them for Final Fantasy titles, but the guide is 19.99 for the normal and 29.99 for the limited edition. If your a fan of Final Fantasy artwork I would pick up the limited edition one. I picked that one up and its fucking amazing. Its the 19.99 strat guide with an addition of an art book. Well worth the 30.00.
Walmart however doesnt carry any strat guides so I had to run from one side of town to the other, but Walmart is the cheapest you can find the game. Fucking crazy for 37.99 on the release date when game shops are pumping it out for 49.99.

you all are lucky.
I bought mine today. Collectors edition + strat guide. I first went to circuit city and found there were no copies left, and they were going for 49.99. Oh well, its worth it to me.

Well? what do you all think?
Who has played it and what do you think of it? I only got to play for a little while last night, unfortunately. But what I have played.. I really enjoy the game. I like the new concept of how you go about fighting the enemies... kind of puts a little more human element in to the RPG fighting style.
Not to mention I am impressed with the graphics. The last time I seriously played Final Fantasy was FFVIII... so this was a nice breath of fresh air :)

It sounds like we've played about the same amount. I was blown away at those cinematics. I was like, Wow, I can't believe I'm seeing this on the PS2. I like the new combat system as well, but is there an auto-targetting system? I would target a monster by pressing the button and scrolling through to the right one but sometimes he'd die a second after and I'd have to go find another one using the same method.

I enjoy the game a shit ton. The game as of yet reminds me a of a melting pot of Final Fantasy games. Thumbing through the strategy guide just to see what kind of shit im getting myself into I stumbled across alot of stuff thats from other FF games.
1. The fighting mechanics are reminiscent of FFXI online MMORPG style. Thats what is taking the most for me to get used to. I despise those types of games, but its growing on me more as I play it.
2. The races in this game being the Moogle, Bangga, Numou, and Viera were races introduced in Final Fantasy Tactics Advance for the Gameboy SP. A great game all on its own if you enjoy the original Tactics for PS1.
3. The judges in the game are also elements pulled from FF Tactics Advance on the Gameboy SP. I dont know if the judges will play a bigger role in FFXII than they did in the advance version.
4. The city setting of Ivalice is also the same as the Tactics Advance version. Alot of the surrounding areas and towns are as such as well.
5. The Licensing system for your abilities is a new idea in the aspect you must have a license to use any sort of ability AND own it at the same time, which is going to be a bitch, but the setup of the board is almost like the sphere grid system set up in Final Fantasy X with the junction ability of Final Fantasy VIII.
6. The hunt side quest in the game is reminiscent of the job quest you had to do in FF Tactics and Tactics advance. Most of the battles setup in the game for those two were jobs and not actual run around battles.
7. All or most of the airships in the game are named after the summon spells from previous Final Fantasy titles, while the new summons are simply new summons.
8. The Summons are also called "Espers" which were a big thing in Final Fantasy 3. The game revolved around espers in a few of the other previous things.
9. Five of the summon spells in the game are actually "Totema" summons from FF Tactics Advance on the SP. Each race: Human, Viera, Bangaa, Numou, and Moogle has a specific Totema attached to there race.
10. There are stones to collect in the game that are named after specific constellations such as Gemini, Libra, and etc. This was a key factor in Final Fantasy Tactics for PS1 in the aspect you had to collect these "Zodiac Stones" to progress through the game.
11. Last but not least there is a "CID" Character which has been a staple name in EVERY single Final Fantasy game to date.
So far I am thouroughly impressed by the graphics from the introduction, the few first cut scenes I have seen, and the normal game play itself. Im having a difficult time toggling the analogs for movement and direction, but most of this will become second nature about 4 hrs into the game if that.
It appears to be a Final Fantasy title that will keep you occupied with not only the game itself, but the shit ton of side quest to finish up. I have a bad habit of not stopping a Final Fantasy game until everything is at 100% completion.
Dont plan on seeing me anytime soon. lol
