I think all we have to do is clear it with the division leader/s. I think it's pretty much unanimous among the CS players that he needs to be in. Not just because we like him, but I think he would make a great addition to the CAL team.

Although, it would be nice to see you around the forum a little more OldKing

OK, here goes.

Gaming (online) history of OldKing

I've been into a few games online... Diablo (legit), Age of Empires series, Rainbow 6 series, CS.

I was briefly one of the top Age of Empires players (during grad school) on the "Zone". I played all the time with maimin_matty, Out4Blood, etc. (some of the best RTS players ever).

Matty (Matt Scadding) eventually won the big microsoft AoE and RoR tournaments, and was later hired by Ensemble Studios.

I never played in any of the tournaments. AoE is where the name "OldKing" came from.

After AoE came Rainbow Six, playing on the "Zone". Around that time (1998-1999) I joined a team called BAGOM, which stands for "Bad Ass Grumpy Old Men". BAGOM ran a popular CS server in the UK for a few years, which later moved to the US and struggled. I started playing CS in late 2000 or early 2001. I started using the m3 heavily in CS 1.4. Traces of www.bagom.com (http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.bagom.com) can be found in the wayback machine (archive.org).

I logged into GNG CS source server sometime in 2005(?) and have been a regular since, because I liked the way GNG folks ran a mature server.

I've been asked a few times why I haven't joined GNG, so here I am...

Hah, I played with Out4Blood in Kohan. We didn't like each other very much, lol. He was considered one of the best in the community but had an arrogant way about him I didn't appreciate. We had a 1v1 tournament where the players were supposed to be randomly matched up, but I secretly emailed the tourney organizer and matched myself up against Out4blood in the 1st round. I was hoping a 1st round elimination would humble him a little bit. Best out of 3, I ended up losing 1-2. I did something that probably cost me the final game but I think the decision was still a good one and would probably make it again. Ah well, he's definitely a worthy opponent and brings a lot to a community.

My little brother is going to Full Sail for some type of game development. I'm not sure exactly what though (we aren't very close). Anyway, I was wondering how hard is it to get into the industry? We now have two people here (at GNG) that work in video games. With that in mind, it appears to me to be not as difficult as I thought. I always likened it to being able to support yourself as a musician. Only a "lucky" few get to do that. I don't mean be a rockstar, but just be able to support yourself by playing music (if that makes any sense).

Sweet, what sort of software do you write and what languages? I'm hoping to find a job writing software/firmware for embedded systems or something else similarly interesting. Anything but Windows software. Working as a sys/net admin for almost 2 years in an all windows shop has really turned me off of it (as I write this on my Linux box)
