Howdy all!
Just wondering if anyone else in GNG is planning to play Vanguard:SOH? I bought the pre-order and will give the Open Beta a shot after I buy a new PC(mid-late January). If nothing else, it'll keep me busy until AOC comes out this summer or later.
Have read many complaints about VG from NDA breakers, but it was still in Closed Beta. The Open Beta should start later this week and we should get some more reviews then. Planning to play on a PVP server. I expect there will be even more bugs/issues with the PVP server(not sure of the rulesets yet), but ever since my EQ days I cannot play an MMORPG without at least some PVP. And no, duels and arena's don't satisfy the Duke!
Hope to see many of you in VG!

I've looked at both Vanguard and Age of Conan and I think I've settled on VG because the environment seems more of something I would enjoy. I really liked the original EQ and this game reminds me of it, probably because of the designers are mostly from the EQ early days. I wasn't really looking for an MMO but this one is just calling to me. I was very close to buying the pre-order box the other day but resisted because I dont even have my new computer together yet heh.

DukeO,

There is a thread in private on this very subject.

Well let me know what the general consensus is. Looks like I can only see the public forums.
Thanks,
Duke

Duke,,,doooode.....how are ya!

Anyhow. Our machines are having trouble with the game, it could be that it takes a new machine to really enjoy it, or the servers and optimization code running in Beta are the suck and things will get better. The game itself has some nice graphics and some good ideas, but the implementation seems to be lacking in my opinion. I think the jury is still out on if this game will be worth playing or not. I personally need to see some improvements in the stability of the servers before I will consider spending the dough on it.

Ranma is playing too, thoughts Billy?

Unfortunately I can not check it out untill I upgrade my computer. I like the ideas behind it. I like the classes and what they can do. But using my shitty old computer I can not make the game run more then 1 frame per 4 seconds.. That makes playing impossible.. So, untill I upgrade no game for me.. On the bright side, I should be able to upgrade at the end of the month, and am buying the game then anyways.. I never buy new games, so $45 isnt going to hurt me..

Hey guys!
I'm taking tomorrow off to enter VG at the start of the 3 day headstart. Over the last few weeks the game has made huge improvements in performance and fun-factor. It has content, but there are still vast empty areas that have yet to be coded with content(mobs) and quite a few bugs still in-game. There's still plenty to do and I strongly believe this game will just continue to get better over time.
If you're on the fence about this game then I suggest you wait 2-3 months and upgrade your pc with 2GB RAM and a nice vid card(hi-end vid cards should drop a lot in $$$ by then) before trying VG. Loads of people are complaining that they rushed the game out and I agree with their evaluation, but I also think it's good enough for retail as is, especially with expectations of it improving as time goes on. Sounds like it will be a slow-leveling game like EQ, maybe even slower. I am a glutton for punishment and actually prefer to work harder to earn levels.
If you love the fast levelling of WOW then you will be dissapointed with the VG Grind. Comparing the two games, IMO, WOW is definitely better right now, mostly because it's been out for a couple years already. It's more polished and has more content and works on nearly any computer, unlike VG. BUT, VG is fun now and has much more potential in the long run.
Anyway, I'll be joining the US Team PVP server tomorrow and will post my name/s later on when I figure out who will be my main. Thinking about going for a Cleric this time...yeah, Sckoarn's godliness as a Cleric in EQ left an impression on me. ;)

EDIT: Thanks Sckoarn, I now have access to the private forums!
