I recieved this email yesterday from Paypal (lol). I may have even fell for it if I had a PayPal account. So, when I woke up this morning at 4:30 for no apparent reason I decided to see what info they asked for.

At first, everything looked pretty legit, but knowing I had no paypal account, I decided to investigate. I first researched the various paypal phishes that have been reported, but was unable to find anything regarding the one I received.

When I followed the "click here to verify" link it took me to the next page that Firefox had flagged as a phishing site.

I then ignored the warning, and proceeded to enter a bogus email and password. And no, there is not a "getalifebitch.com" It did, however, let me proceed to the next page.

The next page is where they screw you...or try to at least. I, obviously, filled this page out with some bullshit as well.

after spending the time filling out this page, I submitted the info. Apparently, it was wrong because it took me to this page.

This is the "real" paypal site. Notice the different URL's in the address bar from the first 4 img's...

I know alot of you use paypal here, so watch out for this new Phish.

thanks for the heads up

I dont reply to emails regarding account information but a lot of people do.
Since many people have their bank accounts tied to paypal its definately not something to mess around with.

yeah I get these a lot. I actually got 2 of these this morning. If you put your mouse over the link in your email you can tell.

There is a very simple solution to this. Don't ever follow links in emails. If I receive an email from a financial institution asking me to verify information, I open a new browser window and MANUALLY type in their home page address.

Moved to General Discussion since your images are entirely too big.

Thanks AR. I thought only topics in the general news section made it to the front page. I was obviously wrong.

Well, you would have been correct a few weeks ago. I recently updated the script so that the last 10 posts in the entire news forum goes directly to the front page.

I plan to change it so that anything posted to that forum would have to go through one of a few people before it actually gets posted. In other words, everything will have to be approved. Well, not so much approved but edited so it displays nicely on the home page.

Thats the main reason why I quit using PayPal, I had set it up with like $5.00 in my account just to test it out, and day after day after day,

I kept getting emails that were telling me that I need to verify fake orders on EBay, I needed to renew my account in 30 days, I needed to change my password...so on and so forth, I finally said F this, and called them and told them to cancel my account.

And it took a good month even after the account was deleted for all the BS email to stop coming. PayPal is too many headaches at least for me.

GB's case is a classic example of the wrong party getting blamed. PayPal users will, without a doubt, receive some kind of phishing attempt only because the people who send these phishes send them to EVERYONE hoping that they nab some PayPal users.

From GB describes, it sounds like he participated in some kind of eBay auction, either as a seller or buyer. If that's the case, then the issue here is the fact that certain information was available to the phishers, via EBAY, that allowed them to specifically target him.

There is no way that you received emails "just because you were a PayPal member". Phishers have no way of getting your email address to know that you are a PayPal user. If they could get your email address from PayPal, they probably wouldn't need to try and get your password from you.:doubt:

I have been with PayPal for almost 6 years. The only time I ever see any kind of "surge" in shady activity is when I actively use eBay.

I receive countless emails for phishing attempts on financial institutions. I have been receiving at least one a week for Washington Mutual (which I don't even do business with) for the last few weeks or so. I can also remember receiving one for Vanguard (I do conduct business with them). Does this mean that I should call them and cancel all my accounts? I don't think so.
