View Full Version : Well my car is destroyed :\

Well just got home from a 2 hour long ordeal. I was driving home from work on our local bridge/tunnel behind a ford truck that had a huge ac unit sitting on it. It slid off and hit the side of the bridge and I hit the unit.....I am ok but the cop told me that I was lucky it didnt kick up and go through my windshield.

I dont have pics yet since I left my damned usb cable at work but here is the damge....

All drivers side damage:
Fender is destroyed
Bumper is destroyed
Headlight is destroyed
Window has huge scratch on it....of course right after I get my tint done
Front DS rim is fucked
Last but not least my mirror is now sinking in the water somewhere around the bridge....

Scared the shit outa me but now I am just pist that I will have to deal with all the BS that goes along with getting your car fixed after a accident. The state cop that talked to me said his wife owns a car like mine and she had a accident with similar damage and his cost him over 10 grand to fix.

I have all the other guys insurence info so hopefully it wont be a HUGE ordeal. I am just happy that I or anyone else wasnt hurt.......but if you would excuse me I am going to go get fucked up and forget this for a while. :doubt:

didnt you just get a new car? or am I confusing you with someone else?

Try to get that car totaled out by the insurance company if at all possible. You dont want a Frankencar.

I'm glad youre ok.

People are so freakin' stupid. That A-hole could have killed you. I hope his insurance goes through the roof and they hit his license with a ton of points.

People should be more responsible.

Funny thing is the cop didnt even give him a ticket...I really didnt get that...it is his fault he didnt tie it down and if there is no penalty for not doing it he will probably forget about it and do it again. Also my car is a year old :P

I dont even know you Snk but that wreck sounds like a very stressful ordeal and I wish you the best of luck with getting everything situated. Most importantly I am glad to hear you did not get hurt. Sorry about your car, and especially right after you had just done your tint job.

Glad to hear your alright. The immediate response to the situation is fuck the car im alive. Then after it all sinks in and your good and alive for a few hrs you decide "Fuck, my Car!"

All in all im glad that your alright and walked away with no major injuries. Things could have been alot worse. To me the thing that would have scared the shit out of me more than getting my cars face pwned in is the fact it was on a bridge. Bridges scare the shit out of me sometimes.

On a brighter note I came home from work two weeks ago and found a tree that I had asked my apartment complex to remove since Hurricane Ivan had come down in a nice little wind storm we had. It took out 4 cars, my power, and my cable.

Luckily I just got home and my girlfriend was at her sisters house so our rides were fine. However the SWAT guy that lives downstairs lost his cruiser, his truck, his GF's SUV, and one of our friends car caught the tip end. There cars were all totalled. Out of power for two days and cable/internet for 4 days.

Wow, very glad you weren't hurt. This could have been a whole lot worse. One time driving in Michigan, my Mom and Dad, little brother, my son, Thunder and I were all in a minivan. The semi-truck in front of us had these huge steel boxes/cages on the back of his flatbed. One of the came flying off the truck and bouncing around a 6 lane highway. Freaked as ALL out, but we were able to avoid it. Still scary, though. Sorry about your car.

Damn, I thought you had totalled your car or something. I'm not saying it's petty...but it's not as bad as I thought. When I wrecked my Ranger I hit the guy so hard it knocked my engine out of the mounts. Of course, I hit a truck, not something small like a AC unit that could have potentially flew into your windshield and killed you. But, anyway...you're safe, and that's all that really matters.

Ya trust me it looks alot worse if your standing next to it. I did miss the fucker just enough so that it didnt smack me directly in the front, I could only image what would have happend if it was a direct hit...I am sure I would have been injured then.

I feel for you dude. Everytime I drive behind one of these trucks with their garden supplies hanging all over the place I try to pass or put a couple of cars between us. I can just see this little 1982 Datsun pickup hitting a bump and this shit come flying out to impale me.

You can spot 'em a mile away too. These assholes who load their pickups with a cord of wood and not put a tarp over it, broken down cardboard boxes, pipes, garden supplies, and all kinds of shit and none of it is EVER tied down or restrained. Just take 5 minutes. Lazy f'ing pukes. They either drive like maniacs or 15 mph below the speed limit.

Ya I have seen stuff go flying before and avoided it it...this one was just a bit to big to steer away from...

I just drove by where I had the accident yesterday. I guess half of the mirror went into the river....the other half was laying about 30 feet back from where my impact was.

Kinda odd seeing pieces of my car sitting on the side of the road

I am lucky though that my brother is willing to let me take his GTI for a few weeks....ahh man I love that little car so that is at least one positive

OH and notice the huge bird shit on my car? That happened right when I pulled off from the accident.....fucking seagul must have been waiting for me to drive off cause it was a BIIIIG ONE it is all over my windshield....it looks like I hit a huge bird, killing the bird and causing it to shit itself all over my car.....I found a small bit of humor in that as I drove off...but then I remembered a damn ac unit was flying at me

Just talked to someone who quoted the damage on the car......so far it willl cost 15k......which is fucking crazy. That isnt even the underbody damage.......does anyone know when they consider a car totaled?

The car new is worth 17k  mine is a year old and has 26k on it (yes I have a nice commute to work)

sylverarrow
03-09-2007, 09:52 AM
I think, someone correct me, it's a certain % of what your car is worth. If it's going to cost 15k to fix, that should be considered totaled.

Snk I've totalled a car before and the way they quote that is if the cost to repair is going to be equal to or more than the ammount the car is worth. Honestly if I were you I would complain about pain. My girlfriend was in an accident over 3 years ago and I still have to take her to get Acupuncture, chiropractors, professional massage therapists, infared treatment, catscans, MRI's. its a lot of shit to go through, i am lucky enough to have a financially secure job to afford this even though the lawsuit we're in is moving so slowly. 3years after the wreck she is still in pain, so Im just letting you know that even if your okay, it still wouldnt hurt to get some componsassion off of this. Its not your fault the asshole didnt load his truck properly, and now you have to compansate for that? Thats bullshit. Talk to your family, and maybe a lawyer and see what you could do that would work out best for your pocket.$$$

Thats true...but I am not in pain, although I do not have health insurence....so if it built up over time that would really suck :frown:

I have back issues as it is too :doubt:

Swift828
03-09-2007, 11:47 AM
I have back issues too, from different events in my life, but the most recent being a car accident. It all does add up so depending on your state I believe you have three years to file a lawsuit. Get health-insurance, a lawyer, and the information of the guy who's fault that you were in a wreck. Another thing to get would be a medical report looking at your back or just a check up from the doctor saying that you had a check up for your backl. Its lunch time at the office so i'll be out of here and back shortly.

Have you ever thought about getting a second opinion from another body shop? Tryed comparing around to see who might compete for it??

I know insurance covers a lot but still...that's a fuckload of money.

go with the highest quote

I think in SC, at least, its 2% of value that will warrent a total

Its definately better to have it totaled.

If its 15k and that doesnt include body work then you should be able to get a check and go out and buy a new car.

Also, you can make the other guys insurance pay for any hospital visits, and if they decline, sue them...even if it's just for medical. Have an attorney call them. They'll more than likely pay rather than have to pay their $900/hr attorneys to battle you in court. If for some reason they do, of course, you'll have to sue for your attorney fees as well.

Guys, never follow any truck or car carrying a load. Pass them, or back way off. I've heard so many stories like this. I ride a Motorcycle to work, so I'm very cautious about this stuff. My absolute favorite is work trucks or vans with ladders strapped to the roof. Had one come off a van in front of me while I was in my Trans Am on the freeway. Luckily no one was in the lane beside me. I couldn't imagine hitting that at 80 mph on an MC.

No not really, the car is at Coxtons on 17 so now I just have to wait. They said it SHOULD be done by next week but they havnt even lifted it yet so we dont know if there is any damage to the suspension, something is fucked up down theere I am sure.

I think I am going to call Enterprise Rentals today...that malibu is a POS. I hope they dont actually give that to someone who pays cash for a rental....here is what is wrong with it.

-2000 miles over a needed oil change
-Rotors are so shot if you hit the brakes the car starts to wobble pretty hard
-When you turn the car can shake....
-If you go anywhere near 70mph you should hold on for dear life...lol

It just amazes me that they dont take care of the shit they rent out. But hey they probably dont give a shit till the car is broken down on the side of the road

It seems that rentals are pretty hard to get unless you have a reservation. I have an Uncle that came to town this past Monday who reserved a car. At the airport, there were about 10 people looking to rent cars, 5 car rental companies, and he (my Uncle) was the only one that got a car. This is Pensacola, FL...definately NOT a big city for many business trips. Car rentals should be plentiful.
I think they base the stock on reservations rather than actual potential renters.
