Says one of the creators of Spore, an upcoming sim game that takes your civilization from mere molecules and goo to intergalactic space travel. IGN got the scoop:

by Daemon Hatfield

March 7, 2007 - During a session at GDC this morning entitled "Burning Mad - Game Publishers Rant," time was taken about half way through to allow developers a chance to spew their own rants. One speaker, Chris Hecker, currently working on Spore at Maxis, took the opportunity to call out Nintendo for not taking games seriously.

"The Wii is a piece of s***!" Hecker began his talk, which was called "Fear of a Wii Planet." He blasted a few bars of Public Enemy to set the tone. Hecker said the Wii is nothing more than two GameCubes stuck together with duct tape, and that the console isn't powerful enough to provide the next-gen experience he has been waiting for.

Although he stated the system is "severely underpowered," Hecker noted that he wasn't simply referring to the Wii's graphical capabilities. He wants to spend a console's CPU making games more intelligent, and he has found the Wii doesn't have the power to process things like complicated AI.

I think the point they were going for wasn't to be the next big processing graphic monster, but to introduce an innovative and new interface. So, yes.. it's a piece of shit, but as bizzle put.. innovative.

I think 250 is about 50 dollars too much for it, but given its competitors it's still a pretty decent deal. I'm really just waiting for the 360 to have a price drop so I can get Dead Rising (I lub zombies) and Gears of War. Nintendo is just too kiddie for me. How many damn variations of Mario/Wario/and whatever the fuck else are they gonna come up with? No offense to the people that enjoy those games.

Yeah, Spore definately looks interesting. The only drawback I see is that it's published by EA...
So, it should be a great game with crappy support, and will probably have adds built in.

Spore does look awesome. About EA, they are more of a distribution company. Mind you, they are now adding ads and bs to the games. But before they helped many companies with their games. Spore is by Maxis, which is the creator of SimCity. I want a new SimCity game!

Damn, I didn't know it was published by EA. I may have to reconsider that. I haven't even tried the new command and conquer demo I hate them so much.
