World of Starcraft Rumors are Back

The long-rumoured new instalment of Blizzard's massive StarCraft series is set to be unveiled later this month - and it's another massively-multiplayer online game in the style of World of Warcraft, CVG can reveal.

Well placed US sources [my emphasis] have revealed to us that the StarCraft MMO will be unveiled at an upcoming Blizzard event on May 19 in South Korea - the epicentre of the sci-fi RTS series' rabid fandom.

The unveiling of the new installment has previously been rumoured for the South Korea event, though we now know that the title is in fact an online spin-off and not a new RTS game as previously assumed.

I for one would be thrilled about either an RTS or a sci-fi MMO. Whichever one we get is anyones guess at this point though.

It just makes no sense. They already have the Flagship WOW, why wouldnt they grab a sequel to the BEST RTS (Yes, none are better then starcraft not even warcraft 3) ever made? They already have most the damn MMORPG world, and theres no RTS out there really that everyones playing..Unless theyre just addicted to the monthly fees now...Maybe theyre gonna try to get the last 5 people still playing SWG to come over to the dark side...

funny cause I actually joked around about this being their next game, and I never knew there was previous 'talk' about it.

I'm not completely against it, honestly. I do think that it would be a stupid idea as far as creating yet another MMORPG while they already rule the MMORPG world with WoW. I didnt read the article thuroughly, but I dont think they are trying to make it in to an RPG/FPS, are they? I know that even in WoW you can have bows, and guns, and things of the sort. It will probably have similar game play if that is the case.

However, I DO think that running around as a little Zealot, Zergling, or Marine (or whatever the case may be) in a MMORPG would be pretty damn awesome.

With all these smansy dansy graphics and such, people are straying from the cornerstone games which set the standard for the gaming of today.

Every gamer should be required to go pick up a copy of WC 1 and learn to appreciate what it did for the strategy games of today.
(except the part where you can only select one char at a time, Damn! nothing more aggravating than trying to move an army of Orcs one by one)

hahaha that is so true. you could just see a few of them poking out of the fog of war. lol I remember blood lust. but you seen T6 you could build walls and the computer didn't know how to destroy them... hahah I liked sending out a few blood lusted and hasted dragons to peoples peons or peasant getting gold.. lol

Announcement is in 3 and a half hours and we'll know for certain. It's been found out that right after the announcement Blizzard is running something called the "Medusa Demo" but nobody knows what that means. I think it has something to do with the transformed Kerrigan in Starcraft, but oddly enough the gaming news sites aren't really picking up on that. I'll post the news when I get it.
