Looks good, I just never really have been a big quake fan in general.
I think 2142 will hold me out through this, cool idea for a game though, good on Id to change it up.

I've just never understood quake, its terrible in its own way because it doesnt have much flexibility. If you jump you jump, if you jump sideways you jump sideways. Never really differed any from those basic concepts. Things blow up the same, animals die the same.... Objects always shoot straight and gameplay is always super-fast. Unreal was a much better game for having visibly detailed objects that didn't look like a abstract picture of a mountain goat with borg implants....
I hope this one is different...

Well... quake is now a pretty old game (at least the one it sounds like you are talking about Nimmy)
and I agree... it -seemed- very limited... graphics kinda sucked (ok, they really sucked) and the movement seemed limited too. Now I dont know the whole history or background of all of the games, but I do know that in some of the later versions of quake... even though still relatively basic... "quick" movement almost became some sort of an art form..
If you were good enough, you could rocket launch yourself off a wall, and basically do a 'bunny hop' from there on. If you were good at this bunny hop... you could actually out-run the rockets being fired at you. The simplistic, yet fast pace of the game still made it worth while for old and new-comers alike.
... now dont get me wrong, I never really liked quake, but I can at least still appreciate where those 'old skool' quake players were coming from.
NOW you have to think that if it wasnt for quake, we wouldnt have Counter-Strike. Counter-Strike is (was) based off of the quake engine... it was basically quake remodified with 'better' physics and different maps/models/etc. Then of course came source...
Anyhow.. the new game sounds pretty interesting...... I'll have to keep up on this and see where it goes.
I wish 2142 held my interest. Its a pretty cool game and I dont know what my problem is with it. I really enjoyed BF2 though. *shrug*
Hopefully TeamFortress will be worth playing too

Yeah I was a Quake player back in the day... damn... now that I think about it, I played pretty much anything that came out. Quake in my opinion was fun as hell when it FIRST came out, but Quake 2 definitely didn't live up to what it shoulda been.
The new one I'm sure will be pretty awesome, BUT... my loyalty is going to stick with Team Fortress 2. And I hope there will be a good GNG following with me... because TF was what got me hooked to gaming.

I'm wary of any shooter that is cross platform. I've never seen a good cross platform shooter, because you either design for the controller or for the mouse but not both, and I don't expect this game to be any different. It's the same with Unreal Tournament 3 coming out for consoles and the PC. There's no way you can take the fast paced gameplay that is the hallmark of the UT games and slow it down so people can aim with an analog stick. It just can't happen. And Epic has already said that you won't be able to do some things in UT3 that you could do in the previous ones, and that sucks to me. I probably won't get either of them.

Unreal sucked, it was just flashy graphics, and I never did like them. Quake was fun at first but got old fast. TFC off of the Half-life engine is really what got me hooked into FPSs. I'll be playing TF2 as soon as it comes out.

Unreal was much more than flashy graphics, mang. I had more of an adrenaline dump playing that game than any other. You've got the flag headed for your base, rockets are flying all around you, people dying everywhere, but your dodging and double jumping avoiding all the fire. What's this, someone coming over the hill. Take your shock rifle out, alternate fire, wait... WAAAAAAIT, primary fire, BOOM!, big explosion splits the guy into a million pieces. And he scores! Then you find something cool to say in all the voice taunts like "I'll swallow your soul!"
Best game EVA!

Your talking about Unreal tournament not the original Unreal. I remember the first Unreal just being quake with much better graphics and different weapons. I enjoyed Unreal Tournament for a while but really never got into all that much. I was pretty decent at it so it wasn't from lack of enjoyment. It just got old.

Unreal was a good game in its own but just as sucky as quake. Honestly I just think of Counter-strike as a good game along with halflife. Quake, Unreal, and otherwise are too unrealistic and cartooned out. I've never really had any feeling of being "in the game" per say... max payne and hitman are in classes of their own because of the long storyline and ability to continuously learn and understand. And I believe BF to be almost a hybrid between realistic and a bad cartoon where objects fly and go nutty. I honestly enjoyed "prey" tho, so I thought I might enjoy "fear" but was dissapointed by the lack of content.....
But quake is just a game that always has left me feeling as though my feet never touched the ground. Unreal is ok but it lacks any real content sometimes other than the nali and a few reoccuring characters/storys... Basically all games suck, read a book.
Edit : That goes for unreal as well as unreal tournament. The original unreal was rather stable except in multiplayer and I actually enjoyed it a great deal for a while. The new UT (unreal tournament) was buggy and crashed a lot... it reminded me of the engine from deusX (which it should have)... which was shallow and annoying. And deus X itself just made me think i was constantly being attacked by cardboard cutouts.... the characters where lacking....

I don't think its fair to compare Quake 1 to half life, dude quake had been out for many years prior too, hell I used to run it on a Pentium 100mhz with 128mb of ram and a 800mb hard drive. The graphics weren't that great you say? well what game had good graphics back then? don't beat on the old school games like that, it was good times back then, you've just forgotten your roots. You guys who only just started playing online shooters when half-life came out, you don't know what you missed. hah, thinking back, I even played Q1 with only a keyboard and a dialup connection for at least a years. They are the games that started it all, show some respect!
p.s. I was in 7th grade when I started playing games online, and it all started with NetMech(most of you have probably never even heard of that!)

My first online shooter was 4 player doom then 16 when my dad figured out how to network it around the neighborhood. Quake didn't have bad graphics, the play just got boring after about 3 months. Same with Unreal.

the single player yes, was boring quickly. But the online and mods oooohhhhh the hundreds of mods. I played TF for a long time(I played doom/wolfenstein with Ioscream, sylver, and bob0the0mighty on coax back in the old hood). Oh man the good ol' days. As soon as Ioscream and Sylver figured out how to use hyperlink, we were all playin BBS games and since my house had conference lines, I think we had a 3way doom game going until the sun would come up the next day.......I miss those times, since everything is high speed now I think we really take for granted what we have now.

I believe my first computer game was halflife 1. Beserker brought his computer to my house when I was like 13 or something and I took it over for the week he was here. Hence the downfall of my life... fucking beserker. Someone should tell him to be a better rolemodel and get himself a damned job that doesnt involve litteral pedaling. (don't get me wrong cousin, I'm just talking shit.) I actually asked what you did for a living and NOBODY knew, lol.

How can you say UT gets old and not CS? CS is a flat world. You can barely jump, you can't dodge, you move slow as shit, and you die from the tiniest of grazes. UT you have power moves, double jumping, wall jumping, dodging, weapons with alternate fires, vehicles if you choose, translocators to warp you around, shields for protection, health boosts to keep from dying. Not to mention, CS is inherently imbalanced because a winning team will more often than not keep winning because of the additional money they receive. No such thing exists in UT.
You guys are just silly. in fact, I think I'm about to go reinstall UT2004. I can't handle this negativity.

Hellz yeah JB. Quake owned. We had to much fun with that game for many years and many late nights. DAH and CWO... hahaha and it's not comparable to CS. It gave the medieval look, although there was a rocket, grenade launcher, and the _shaft_. hahah The dark gloomy levels, lava, super nail gun... Or one of us running for the water while everyone is fighting in or around it to discharge... lol
This one is for Io, JB, and bob. Having matches on DM4?? Good times.

4 player Doom ftw!
I was an Unreal fan (the o.g. unreal). Then there was Tribes. Awesome game. Then came Counter-Strike. Never got into the o.g. Quake. I think it was all the hype that turned me off from Quake. Played UT1 for a bit, but was too into CS for it to stick.
Tribes was by most all time favorite FPS though.

No worries Trip. I did like it up until about 4 years ago. I was even on a couple of the GNG teams for OGL and CAL or something. I just got sick of the boring play, I could really care less if I'm able to get an AWP shot off before someone gets me.
Tribes ROCKED. I really wish it could of stayed more mainstream.

Wow, I almost forgot about tribes!! that guy on the modded servers with the dispensers that you could buy some crazy shit from, buying the platforms and building a tower and then a bridge to the enemy base was me btw......
