hey guys whats up? some of you might have been wondering where i've been... most of you prolly don't give a rats ass...

i just moved (i still live with pacifist; machinist left for wyoming last week)

anywho, i just recently had to reinstall windows because my rig sucks...

with that being said, i also had to reinstall steam...

now when i click on a server through steam, or even just the css icon itself, it acts like it is loading but then just.... doesnt.

i reinstalled steam from the beginning twice.

any suggestions?

Here's the idiots guide.

1. Reboot
2. Go into the folder where steam is itself/click it.
3. Bypass steam and open the halflife exe (where'ever that may be).
4. Call Geek Squad.
5. After Geek Squad is too dumb to fix it right click the shortcut and hit propertys then check the command line - which is void if it still doesnt work from the exe.
6. Actually I've noticed that programs like to start then not work because they're loaded but not visible... so you reclick and it trys to load but doesnt do anything - chances are ctrl+alt+del and see if steam is in the running apps list or anywhere....
...7. Also run msconfig and check your startup features, steam may be starting on startup causing it to be stupid and act dumb... which might cause you havok.
8. Tell us when the problem started happening/why/if it worked before you left/if you got a virus and had to reinstall/what your running, etc.

Most likely you just have a sucky computer tho that doesnt like steam and freezes, if it doesnt want to reload, ctrl+alt+del and close the program then retry... lol

Goodluck!

Edit: Just re-read your post, hmm... try loading cs from the main exe (if you havent already). If that doesnt work check the compatibility on your video card and then whine here some more. ;) If it acts like its loading it should load, only thing I've noticed that has made games not load is when it doesnt activate your video card - which begs the question on wether or not you have the most recent DirectX installed.... lol. *shrugs*

Fuck Geek Squad.
Chubbs, I think the site is steampowered.com , goto their forums and search for the issue you are having. Not saying it will be in there but I have a few support sites I need to goto this morning into the afternoon. I would have researched the issue but I won't be at my desk until the late afternoon.

i had this same problem once before. it might have something to do with cs not loading at the proper resolution. right click on the cs shortcut and check all the properties. there should be a line in there somewhere which has some resemblance to common resolution settings. make sure that all the numbers coraspond (sp?) to the resolution settings you have set for your desktop. then it might work.

I believe what he's saying is the halflife exe itself is not loading? So you wouldnt be able to check resolution I believe and etc?

Nimmy

It should be Directx 9 or higher on your version number... double check your vid card drivers and make sure they work.

Steam.dll
SteamUI.dll
ClientRegistry.blob

Try deleting them and see if it opens then

Kind of a stupid question, but do you have windows firewall disabled?

Awesome dude, glad it wasn't anything that would cost since it was a new computer and all. Yeah after moving it around always re-seat your cards, ram, connections, etc.
