MS released stats (http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,137454/article.html )showing the state of the XBox with 2 very positive figures.
Out of 11.6 million XBoxes sold, MS reports 7 million XBox Live members - roughly 60% of XBox users take advantage of the service. This bodes well for them to find a way to monetize the service.
The 2nd great statistic is that the 360 sales more software titles than the PS3 and Wii combined. The average 360 gamer bought 6.3 games per console. We all know that hardware is sold at a loss and that they make their money from licensing. That's a critical statistic for gathering more developers.
Because of the way the XBox is lumped in with the other services in its division, I'm unsure whether the XBox is a revenue generator or still a drain on the company. But these surely help foster continued support from MS.
