I ordered a 24 slot TF2 server today, so we now have our own server again! It's up and running and ready to play on.

The server's address is 208.167.249.87:27015. The server is in New York if you're curious about latency.

I'll work this weekend on tweaking the setup and try and setup at least an Admin mod to handle the basics. I still have most everyone's SteamID from the CS server, so I shouldn't need anyone's, depending on how we give out admin, and whether or not they had admin on the CS server.

See you on the server bitches, and you better play on our pub:biggrin: We already managed to fill it up tonight, not bad for the first night.

*EDIT*
We have 5 days to test this server and make sure we're happy with it until we're stuck with it. If we cancel within 5 days we can get a refund.

Hah, was going to make a thread but didn't want to steal your thunder! I'm very happy with this server. I noticed most everybody were getting great latencies, which is pretty amazing given how far north it is. I think the average ping was 30 or so. Devil Dog's was a little higher at around 70 and I think Zero mentioned his was up there a bit too. I hope it's at least manageable for you guys until gameservers.com transfers us further south. I like how we filled up rather quickly too. This should be fun!

Thanks again for setting it up, Z!

There will be no stealing me.

Look forward to being on the server as much as I can. Thanks Zero!

Can we get an update to the front page as well? The server listed is not correct.

There should be almost no difference between a server in Atlanta and a server in New York for the majority of our users, especially those towards the central eastern seaboard, such as you Virginia and Carolina people. For the most part, just about EVERYONE should have latencies under 100ms. Sorry, but that's about the best that can be done to accommodate everyone. If everyone expects 13ms latency, you're simply dreaming. If you got anything higher than 100ms you're either on the west coast or have terrible routing.

On the order of the web page, I'm on track to work 32 hours in less than 3 days. I will finally get a break this weekend and zero and I will be getting together to tie up loose ends with the server and web page.

We definitely want to ramp up the server and provide whatever features are currently available to stay ahead of other servers. This weekend, we'll add whatever features, stats, maps, etc are already available and integrate whatever we can with the website.

May I suggest we limit the downloads from our server to very few or none? I hate nothing more to find a low latency server only to spend the next 5 minutes downloading all their custom sounds they've loaded, especially when it's the 10th time of downloading Unreal or Quake voice overs.

I agree with Thunder. Most of the servers I've been to have been nothing but the barebones basics of TF2 with no extra crap added. We should hold off and see what is taking hold in the community before randomly adding new extras.

The only thing I plan to add that would need to be downloaded is maps. I can't stand downloading 100 different sounds from some shitty server because in the end I just end up turning the system sounds off in their mod anyway. We'll also be setting it up so the maps that are added will be compressed and on a seperate server, so the downloads are much faster, and smaller, which helps alot.

About downloading things from servers, there's a variable I found you can set that's in TF2, and I think CS too, that lets you skip the sound files from a server when you connect, which is really nice.

cl_downloadfilter "nosound" will skip any sound files from a server, so you avoid all of that bullshit. By default this is set to "all". The maps might still take some time tho.

I'll be on TF2 on Sunday, as I will buy my copy and get in on the madness as well.

Well right now the only ones with admin are myself and Animal until we decide how it should be given out.

We're running SourceMod if you want to read up how to use it. If you have admin just bind "sm_admin" to some key or mouse button to display a simple menu.

There's a bug, or "feature" of TF2 where menus only show up for 4 seconds, so you have to be quick to use it. That goes for map votes too.
