I took cp_well out of rotation because it seemed to kill the server. Anyone else think it should be added back?

But, map is still on the server, and any admin can make it the next map, or change to it directly. So if enough people on the server want to play it an admin can take care of that.

I enjoy well myself, but I agree with Z that the server dies often times when playing on it. I usually send us there when I'm playing and if people complain or start leaving I change to something else.

Wow, I'm really shocked to see that. I know the trains can be annoying sometimes but it seems like a really well designed map despite that. Personally, I'd much rather see Hydro taken off the rotation than Well. There seems to be some complaining and loss of traffic when it's on also, so not sure why Well is being singled out as the server killer.

Which is strange to me but Hydro is my favorite map. I prefer Hydro over most others because it changes. We just need to find a way to set a time limit to it overall. It does suck to fight over the same two points for a while.

I haven't played enough Well on our server to know if it empties it or not.

i think its becasue our maps stay the same for too long, like a few rounds of well is awesome but too much sucks

The server is set for 45mins per map. The problem is, on the bigger maps with multiple stages, like dustbowl and hydro, 30 mins is really too short to play the whole map both sides. But an hour is too long for simpler maps, so I comprimised at 45 mins.

There's a var I can set the number of rounds a team has to win to force the map to change, and then do away with the time limit. So say I set it at 4, one of the teams would have to win 4 rounds to get the map to change. For CTF maps, you need 3 caps to win 1 round. These settings are set at the server level for every map.

What I want to do is find a way to change all of these limits per map, but there don't seem to be any way to do that yet in TF2. There's a way built into every Source-based game, but for some reason that doesn't work in TF2 either.

So in the mean time, do you guys want the maps limited by rounds won instead of time? So like 3 or 4 wins to change the map, and then just set the time really high in case both teams suck? Like 90 mins or something.

Ok done, try this out and see how it plays.

Limit set to 4 rounds for a team to win for the map to change.
Map time limit bumped to 75 mins (1hr and 15) in case no one wins 4 rounds.

I'd really prefer the 45 minutes back. Sometimes you want the map to end quickly because teams are stacked and you want a reshuffle, and 75 minutes when teams are even seems like a hellishly long time. It may not seem too bad on paper but try going 2Fort for 75 minutes and see if it doesn't wear on you. It feels like one of my cardio workouts. You just want to quit but you keep going. Everyone was on Vent bitching tonight lol.

My two recommendations:

Put Well back up, since the map count is small anyway and most of the people I talk to seem to enjoy it. I honestly truly see more traffic loss and bitching with Hydro so again I can't understand why Well has been singled out. It's Granary with trains, what's the big deal? And take the map time down back to 45 minutes, maybe even less than that. You have to keep changing things up or you're gonna face burn out. New teams, new maps, new everything, with a reasonable frequency. It's a fast-paced game and you need a fast-paced change-up.

You'll only ever hit the 75 minutes if neither team can manage to win 4 rounds before that time, which shouldn't happen all that often. If anything the maps should be changing faster than they did when it was 45 mins with no score limits.

we also have the option of manually changing the map by starting a map vote...

use that t6 if there's trouble...

The only problem with voting is the menu only stays up for 4 seconds, so you should probably warn everyone that you're doing a vote so they can catch it in time.

You can also just change the map if everyone is getting tired of it.

What are you trying to get done? Are you mad about the time limit or the map, cp_well?

The way the time limit is setup now, you will only ever play 75 minutes or anything even close to that if the teams are deadlocked. Before we got this server I played on servers that were set up that way. Sure, if the teams were deadlocked it got a little boring. But, that didn't happen very often. One team would most likely trigger a map change by scoring the 4 points necessary. It's a trade off, you risk playing a full 75 minutes once in a while. On the flipside, if your team is being dominated, you won't have to suffer for long because the map will change after the team that is whooping your ass gets 4 points.

Regarding the map rotation. Zero came up with a decent solution. We are going to switch cp_granary and cp_well every other time they come up. I am not bias towards either of those. Personally, I don't like either too much and I think they both have a negative impact on the server but I just play through them.
