User Morac (http://www.thegng.org/useremail/u/464721) writes in:"TiVo and the NTCA announced today that the previously proposed external adapter that will allow TiVo and other cableCARD devices to tune SDV channels will be available starting the 2nd quarter of 2008. Currently SDV channels are not viewable via cableCARD compatible devices since tuning such channels requires 2-way communication which most cableCARD devices lack. As more and more cable companies are starting or planning to add SDV channels in the near future, this announcement means that people using TiVo (and any other cableCARD device with a USB port and upgradable firmware) won't be left out."

As we've mentioned, many cable providers are rolling out switched digital video (SDV) technology aimed at increasing bandwidth capacity on cable networks, by holding unwatched channels at the edge router. TiVo had expressed concern (http://www.thegng.org/shownews/83736) that SDV technology could render CableCARDs (and thererfore their hardware) useless.
