Average residential DSL downstream speeds have increased in all but two regions globally from Q2 2007 to Q3 2007, according to the latest findings from broadband stat farm Point Topic (http://point-topic.com/content/dslanalysis/BBAtariffspeeds071126.htm). Average downstream speeds jumped in Asia Pacific, Latin America, South East Asia, Western Europe and Eastern Europe, but failed to increase in both North America and and the Middle East & Africa."The most significant changes were seen in Asia Pacific and South and East Asia," says Fiona Vanier, Research Analyst at Point Topic, "This is due to operators such as China Tietong and NTT which have introduced services with downstream speeds as high as 100 Mbps."
In North America and Canada, the average downstream DSL speed is 2971kbps, and speeds only saw a .17% bump. In Asia Pac, the speediest region, average DSL downstream speeds are 14989kbps and saw an 38% increase. The second fastest region was Western Europe, where the average DSL speed is 5552kbps, and speeds saw a 6% jump.
