Reuters (http://www.reuters.com/article/technology-media-telco-SP/idUSL2834755220071128) reports that EMI is considering cutting funding to industry trade groups such as the RIAA, or its International equivalent, the IFPI. EMI, which was recently taken over by private equity group Terra Firma, is looking for a way to trim the fat, and RIAA funding may be their answer. Reuters says the major labels give about $132.1 million per year to these groups, most of which has been used to combat broadband piracy (aka their scorched-earth legal campaign (https://www.p2plawsuits.com/P2P_99_FAQ.aspx?CallPage=00)).
