CompUSA shut down over half their stores in an earlier attempt to stave off bankruptcy, but it wasn't enough. A private investment firm that specializes in the sale of assets, overstocks and inventories has bought all of the remaining associated properties including technical and internet services. The remaining stores will be closed (http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,140419/article.html). Be on the lookout for sales and alerts.
I will miss them. I always enjoyed walking the aisles and handling the merchandise - before I bought it online or at Best Buy or Frye's for substantially less.

LOL.
I never liked CompUSA and am not sad to see them go. I must have had mail-in rebates totaling over 150 dollars that I never received, even after jumping through all the hoops. I know that's not technically CompUSA's fault, but they should have taken more care to ensure people got the deals they expected.

Only memory I have of them is when me and Max (a gaming friend from Vegas) went there to buy the new N64 wrestling game because NO ONE else in the city had them on stock except COMPUSA and thats after a whole day of calling and searching. Ah the joys and pain that game caused.

Its kind of a mixed thing for me...
at least around here I will miss them because they had to compete with their neighbor (best buy) for prices. Sometimes they would have the better buy. I will also miss the BAWLS (energy drink for those of you who dont know) they sell, but they are becoming more readily available in gas stations, gaming cafe's and such... so I guess its not such a big deal.
I did have a bit of grudge against them though. I had been a tech all through highschool and I had a moment of unemployment near the end of my senior year. So I decided I would apply there for a tech position and this is pretty much what they told me
"Every tech here at least has their A+ certification, some are even MCSE. You could start off in a sales position and maybe move your way in a tech slot if you get some certifications."
I'm sorry, but certifications are a load of CRAP. I understand they are sometimes important for employers as proof that you know what you are doing (if you have no proof of prior experience in the field) - but I figure years of hands-on experience would probably prove I know what I am doing. Besides, its CompUSA people... c'mon. I could have probably schooled every last one of those tards in the ways of a computer... both Mac and PC.
So I thought it was great that less than a month later NASA hired me as a systems administrator. lolz. You dont know how bad I wanted to shove that in the managers face who told me I couldnt be a tech there.
so I guess good riddance. Sorry for those who are employed by them though :doubt:

CompUSA was a pretty cool place to go in the early 90's because they had more computer shit than most any other local retailer, even Best Buy, and that was before you could find most shit alot cheaper on the web at new egg and a billion other places, like hae-yu said,,,,these day's their main draw is to let you finger fuck the goods before you go somewhere else to get em cheaper.
