I have a 87 dakota with a 2.2L 4cyl engine, and a 5 speed manual tranny sitting outside. Its the perfect work truck - but its broken.
Figured I'd ask here if I hadn't before. I was driving and it clicked oddly as I put it in 3rd, and when I did it again it lost all power and rev'ed like it was only in neutral. Constant wiggling of the shifter would cause it to go back to normal - eventually, only to shift into third again and have the same problem. Wiggle some more, then try 1-2-4 and have it STICK in 4th, so I have power, I was just stuck in 4th gear. So thirds making it have no gears, and 4th wants to be the only gear. 1-2-5 all work fine. But 3'rd and forth are on the same notch in the tranny.
Unsure what a easy fix would be for it besides a new transmission - I would have done that already but finding a tranny for this truck seems near impossible.
Anyone have any ideas on the culprit?
