Comcast continues to shutter their "Digital Phone" service, urging customers to upgrade to their "Digital Voice" VoIP service. Comcast's older Digital Phone service ran over AT&T's network using more expensive gear, but now that Comcast is the largest VoIP carrier, they'd obviously like customers to make the shift. While the service in some regions has already been disconnected, Illinois areas customers are now getting alerts. According to the Chicago Sun Times (http://www.suntimes.com/news/metro/712786,CST-NWS-comcast26.article), customers have between now and April 21 to make the shift. The price differences:Comcast Digital Phone service prices ranged from $23.95 a month for a basic package, with no local-toll or long-distance minutes, to $48.95 for unlimited calling, Ruggiero said. The regular price for Comcast Digital Voice: $39.95 a month for customers who also have cable and Internet service through Comcast; $44.95 for customers who have one other Comcast service or only the phone service.
According to the piece, Digital Phone service customers who switch to Digital Voice are getting a deal: service for $19.99 per month for the first year. If we recall correctly, that offer was only for six months in some other markets.
