I love this series... poor Shinji Ikari the last two episodes I slept through 25-26 stupid mindfuck episodes that had nothing to do with the rest of the series.

The definitive ending of the series was episode 24. Poor Karu :(

Have you seen the movies? If you haven't you really should. Maybe even watch the series over along with the movies.

The reason the last 2 episodes are so messed up is the creator was rushed to put an end to the series. So they're sort of introspective into the mind of the characters and are sort of self-interpretation. The movies help pick up the story where the series left off, but are still somewhat open ended.

But overall definitely one of my favorite series of all time.
