A recent Knoxville news article (http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2007/dec/30/top-10-local-business-stories-2007/) gave its opinion on the top ten local businesses for the area, naming Scripps Networks as one of the leaders. The company, which owns channels including Food Network, has been around for about twelve years but saw significant growth in 2007. In terms of the perks for the business, they boasted a $1 billion operating revenue and announced plans to expand their headquarters.

Additionally the company will no longer be operating under the umbrella of parent company E.W. Scripps as part of a media network which includes the company's many newspapers. Instead, the company is being split and one side of it will be led by Scripps. That business is planning to expand with acquisitions in a variety of online areas including a recent purchase of Recipezaar.

Some of this success is likely due to the 2007 finalization (http://www.teleclick.ca/2007/04/verizon-brings-three-more-hdtv-channels-to-fios/) of an agreement to offer Scripps channels on Verizon s FiOS. Too bad it took them two years (http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,18040234?hilite=) to do that.
