Time Warner Cable tells local North Carolina papers (http://www.newsobserver.com/business/story/855233.html) they'll be spending $50 million on switched digital video (SDV) in North & South Carolina in order to offer "an unlimited number of HD channels" by the middle of this year. SDV technology holds unwatched channels at the edge router, freeing up bandwidth on the cable network for additional content and applications. Time Warner Cable added ten HD channels in the region last year, but remains significantly behind HD-leader DirecTV.
