It looks like soldering a 3G card into your Asus EeePC (http://thegng.org/shownews/90532) won't be the only way to get broadband access via the new sub-$500 laptop. Electronista (http://www.electronista.com/articles/07/12/31/asus.eee.pc.with.wimax.tip/) insists that Asus may be revealing a new model at CES that includes an 8.9 inch screen and integrated WiMax connectivity. Yeah, that's not so great if you don't live in a WiMax region, and it could drive up the cost-- making the inexpensive laptop not so inexpensive. Any actual release date information is a little skimpy, though a Sprint tie-in is suggested:The system is certain to arrive in the US through Sprint's involvement with the project, which will make sure the new Eee can take advantage of the cellular provider's upcoming Xohm WiMAX service. The debut is expected on Monday, though an actual launch may hinge on Sprint's 4G network, which launches during the spring.
Sprint's Xohm network should see commercial launch during the second quarter of 2008.
