BBR reader and Time Warner Cable customer Matthew Evans writes in to note that Time Warner Cable/Roadrunner is scrapping their video mail service. Launched back in 2004 (http://www.timewarner.com/corp/newsroom/pr/0,20812,1007749,00.html), the service used software from Vibe Solutions Group to simplify the process of recording and sending video snippets. However, a Time Warner Cable e-mail to customers says the service is being scrapped due to "modest demand":Due to modest demand, Road Runner will no longer offer the Video Mail service, effective January 13, 2008. If you have added contacts or reminders to your Road Runner Video Mail address book, please be sure that these addresses are also available in another address book, or copy them to another address book prior to January 13th, 2008. After January 13th, any information in the Video Mail application will be unavailable.
"I tried it and it was PAINFUL at 384Kbps upload, which is likely why there was "modest demand," says Evans.
