For a few years, Autonet Mobile (http://www.autonetmobile.com/wp/service) has been promoting their in-car Wi-Fi hotspot, which uses a Sprint wireless broadband connection (kind of a 3G EVDO Wi-Fi MVNO, you dig?) to provide connectivity on the go. Their $399 3G Wi-Fi router has shown up via a few scattered rental agencies at the rock bottom price of $10.95 per day (http://redirect.avis.com/autonet/). However, the device seems to be in a perpetual state of "coming soon" when it comes to direct purchase via the product website.
With CES looming, the company has announced they'll be adding in car storage (http://www.businesswire.com/portal/site/google/index.jsp?ndmViewId=news_view&newsId=20080102005814&newsLang=en) to the system, even if nobody can buy it. Of course you could just sign up directly for EVDO from Sprint and save your data directly to your laptop, buying any number of 3G Wi-Fi routers if you're really hellbent on turning your Plymouth into a highway hotspot.
