Many people are excited about the upcoming possibility of having in-flight broadband (http://www.dslreports.com/shownews/86284) connections to use during air travel. However, some people are concerned about the security risks that this new technology may pose. One system that has gained some attention because of this is the Boeing 787 (http://www.wired.com/politics/security/news/2008/01/dreamliner_security) system.
Analysts point out that the system that provides the Wi-Fi connectivity in the plane is directly connected to the plane s communications and control systems. There is fear that this would make it fairly easy for hackers to use the connection to get into the plane s controls and take over the flight. FAA spokespersons have said that the two systems are not entirely connected and that there should be little risk but they won t be officially speaking about the safety of the issue until sometime next week.
