Comcast and Panasonic have unveiled a portable DVR unit (http://www.lightreading.com/document.asp?doc_id=142393&site=cdn) dubbed the AnyPlay P-DVR (the TZ-LC100, if you'd like to use Panasonic lingo). Outfitted with "Tru2way" technology, it's obviously a way to promote the industry's new standard (http://thegng.org/shownews/OCAP-Becomes-Tru2way-90746).
The device has an 8.5-inch screen and can record up to 60 hours of video and plays DVDs and CDs. The P-DVR connects to a docking station that acts as the traditional cable box, allowing roaming access to VOD and other content.
Comcast says they'll be leasing the device to consumers but have yet to reveal pricing. It has a CableCARD slot, so it could be used across multiple vendors. It should emerge sometime in 2009, according to the cable giant.
