Sling Media, developers of the Sling Box, today announced (http://www.foxbusiness.com/markets/industries/telecom/article/sling-media-develops-industrys-cable-modem-integrate-placeshifting_426209_13.html) that they've integrated their popular place-shifting TV technology with a cable modem to create the aptly named "SlingModem." Despite being acquired recently by Echostar (Dish Network), the company says the new modem demonstrates their "operator-agnostic philosophy."Connecting a SlingModem is as simple as a traditional modem, with the only required input being the coaxial cable from the wall. Upon set up, users will instantly have access to their analog cable channels on a PC, Mac, or compatible smartphone. In addition, customers with a digital cable set-top box can connect SlingModem to the set-top box to access live or recorded television programming, premium content and video on demand. Because the SlingModem requires no router configuration, installation is simple and low cost while also providing tremendous added value to the customer.
"We are working with MSOs both in the U.S. and worldwide, and we expect to deliver the SlingModem through OEM customers in 2008," says Sling Media CEO Blake Krikorian. Sling Media has also introduced the Slingbox Pro HD (http://www.foxbusiness.com/markets/industries/telecom/article/correcting-replacing-photo-sling-media-unveils-topofline-slingbox-prohd_424707_13.html), SlingPlayer Mobile for Blackberry and SlingCatcher, which will ferry video content from your PC to your living room.
