There was a demo released a few days ago for this RTS game called Rising Kingdoms, from some obscure company in Bulgaria, lol. But actually it's quite good and since it's getting zero press and its multiplayer has hardly a soul, I was wondering if there was anybody here that wanted to try it out with me. This was some feedback I gave on their official forums. It's actually pretty sad because it really does seem like a good game and I'm the ONLY person that has commented on it:

I just downloaded the demo and I really liked how polished it looked. Congratulations to the developers on what appears to be a really great game. The music is simply fantastic. The graphics engine looks dated but the animations are well done -- watching the Forester worker climb up and down the main hall is a nice touch. The swirling of the leaves as a building is contructed is also cool. The idea of 3 races and several sub-races to control is a great one and keeps lots of variety in the game. Kohan did this as well and it's good to see that type of innovation continued. The hero system has been done before but looks well implemented, so no complaints there. Overall, I am pleased.

Some other feedback: Proper balance is a concern of mine for multiplay. With 3 races, 4 champions per race, 5 subraces, and lots of skills and items, it seems like a hard thing to accomplish. This forum is a pain in the ass to post on as well, and finding this homepage on google was a little tough since it's actually on the second page of searches instead of the first where it should be. Minor issues really.

PS: Thank gamershell.com for me being here as I had never heard of this game until today. icon_smile.gif

Once again, excellent work!

It's finals week and I'm swamped with shit to do but I will totally make time to play this with somebody.

Heh, I'll have to check it out. Work's crazy (been putting in 12 or more hour days) and with the baby I hardly have any time, but I'm looking for a new game.

Ditto what Inann said but I'll give it a try when I get the time.

I _LOVE_ RTS games... but I am kind of a 'pop' person when it comes to that, I like something that many people get involved with before I look into it...

I hope another warcraft or starcraft, or ANY kind of new RTS from Blizzard is released.... I enjoyed WC3, but I didnt really care for the whole Heros deal. It was a really neat concept, but there is just SO MUCH CRAP you have to keep up with... kind of like that one game, Rise of Nations? I believe....

waaaayyy too involved... but perhaps thats where RTS's are headed... :doubt:

I feel the same way as you Neb. It almost seems like work to play these strategy games now-a-days. You have to keep track of all these "special" units, in addition to your build times, and other groups of units.

I remember Red Alert had "Tanya" and that was about the only special unit you had to keep track of/control individually. RTS games used to be so much easier to play, now they suck balls.

I agree with the both of you.

Rise of Nations is an awesome game but you have to do and remember so much shit. Have 9 damn cities and defend them all, research, upgrade, gain knowledge, etc. It was fun when no one really knew how to play. lol

WC3 turned me away, damn the heros (you can turn them off I believe). It was a okay game but in my eyes StarCraft still has it beat. WC2 was the shit as well but little too old for me now. But I will play StarCraft anytime that people will play. Neb and I played SC not too too long ago. Fun days, I used to play Battle.net and I was rank descent but that was sooo long ago. I'm rusty now.

I'm a frickin Rise of Nations WHORE. I even bought the expansion. (which adds so much more to the replay value) I don't play online much but I crank the heck out of the difficulty settings and play the conquer the world campaigns.

Been playing more of Rising Kingdoms. I'm not recommending it now because A) the company still doesn't even have a US distributor yet, which means it will get released in Europe first and people will already have strats and stuff figured out by the time I get it, and B) there is a huge bug in the two player multiplayer demo map which is a total game-stopper.

BUT

I'm open for any new strat games anybody wants to try. Cossacks 2 just got released and is getting great reviews, as is Empire Earth 2. Somebody let me know! AIM - Scharnhorst21

Yeah I tried rising kingdoms.. didn't even bother going online with it.. it's poo!
It might have been good back in the days of warcraft 2, but it's waaay behind the times now

Now I wouldn't be THAT harsh, hehe. The more I play it the more I appreciate what the developers are trying to do. If graphics mean a lot to you then yes you will hate it, but for people looking for lots of variety and good tactical battles, I don't see how you could go wrong. Unfortunately, it's all a moot point if the game isn't even in stores to buy in the first place, so oh well. Thanks for trying the demo though, Raven!

I just tried the Empire Earth 2 demo too and GOD DAMN is it also awesome.

Naw, I'm not too big on graphics, as long as gameplay and storyline is good..
RK is missing a lot of functionalities that I came to take for granted in a strategy game, like double-clicking a single unit to select all units of that type on screen, etc. Maybe I just didn't play it long enough, but first impression is baaad!

Triple_6

Double-clicking does select all units of the same type... Oh well.

Raven

lol then I'm doing something wrong
But regardless.. let's move on to discussing some other game

Sounds good. Try the Empire Earth 2 singleplayer demo and if you like it as much as I do then let's get the multiplayer demo and kick some arse.

Note: Not much innovation in this title either but it does seem solid.

Aoe 3 (ages of empire: 3) is coming out this fall/summer

Raven
05-01-2005, 11:38 PM
ooo i'm betting my money on aoe 3, I loved the other two. unless.. what era is it set in?

I'll try empire earth 2 demo in a couple days, after i'm done with my exam, although I gotta say that I wasn't too impressed with the original.. I guess I'll see

I have a feeling AoE3 is going to get pushed back until the holidays but it will be great when it does come out.

I just want a solid strategy game to hold me over for the summer. EE2 could be it but I'm still playing around with it, and haven't heard much on Cossacks 2. If anybody has a copy of Rome Total War, I'm open to buying it from you as well.

How was Rome Total War? It looked really cool but I haven't heard anything about it. Well no one I know has it.

Raven

yeah same.. rome total war seems like a cool game, but nobody has it.. I love medieval: total war (and expansion) - still play that sometimes

LOL, no reason to delete it Crayola. I think a lot of us got our online-gaming starts on Starcraft. I had to get my aunt to help me figure out why I couldn't join battle.net when I first got it. She recommended I sign on AOL first... :frown:

WarCraft II using Kali... before they released WCII Battle.net Edition.

StarCraft was the best and still is. Only RTS that I like right now.
