AT&T has announced (http://www.att.com/gen/press-room?pid=4800&cdvn=news&newsarticleid=25248) that they've launched their U-Verse VoIP service (aka "U-Verse Voice") in Kansas City (the one in Kansas, not the one in Missouri). This is the service's third launch market, after previous launches in Detroit and portions of Connecticut. AT&T is moving slowly as they work out the kinks in the new technology. The prices, for those who hadn't seen them already:•U-verse Voice Unlimited: unlimited local and nationwide minutes to any location in the U.S., Canada or U.S. territories for $40 a month.
•U-verse Voice 1000: 1,000 Call Anywhere minutes to any location in the U.S. or U.S. territories for $30 a month.
U-Verse Voice is available only with purchase of AT&T U-verse TV service or AT&T Yahoo! broadband. Triple play bundles start at $114 (http://www.att.com/Common/uversevoice/packages.html). A second phone line can be added for $20 per month. The price point certainly doesn't scare indie VoIP providers, but then again cable has dominated the market by charging a premium.
