It seems to me like reading is dying out in younger people today which is really depressing. I for one am rarely without a book in my hand. There's a certain enjoyment and satisfaction you have when finishing a book...even a bad one. So I was wondering, who in here reads? And if you do in fact read, what authors, genres etc.? I'll read pretty much anything. From fantasy to historical fiction to horror to noir to whatever falls on my lap. Anyways just thought I would shoot this question out there.

Peace and Reading Grease!

Mystery
Historical Fiction or
Fantasy (which kind of blends in with the old fighting books in series like RedWall.

I use to read books, I am kind of with Crayola as in I find books that are set in the medieval time to be the most facinating, I love fiction stories with knights, wizards, etc... but that has kind of phased out of me... now, if I ever do read, it is on more specific topics that I am interested in learning more about, and the internet is a great source for that....

so unfortunately, thats about it... I read the internet O_o

A few months back I recently picked up reading. I hated it in high school for some reason. But I do enjoy it now. I have tackled Dan Brown and his series of books. Angel and Daemons and The Da Vinci Code were great books in my opinion. I'm working on Deception Point now, have about a 100 pages left. I don't have alot of time to read but I read when I can. Next I think I'm going to take up 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy' series. Friend of mine said their were good and funny.

I read technical specifications, Requierment specifications, Programming Language manuals and stuff like that. Does that count?? Like I spend all day reading, and writting, last thing I want to do is read at home. Hold it, all night I read text from other players while I play, does that count too??

I do ASIC and FPGA development, Im a verification Eng. I read specs on what we are going to build, and try to write test plans and crap like that.

I progam in any language, given time, but mostly VHDL, tcl\tk as of late. I have programed in C/C++, perl, fortran, HTML and love assembler whatever the CPU.

Currently working on a project to increase the bandwidth of the F-16 infustructure for the US Military.

Anyway, all day I read, so do not get into reading for entertainment. Though I have read a couple books, Dune series, Thomas Acoventent?, but lately when I have read for entertainment, I read things like History books for some reason. Like the settlement of North amarica for instance.

Lord of the Rings Trilogy (I'm halfway through)
Sword of Truth Series
Laurell K. Hamilton (Anita Blake series and Meredith Gentry series)
Mostly Fantasy books, books with vampires and/or wereanimals, love the Dragonlance Chronicles, love some of the classics (Jane Eyre, Phantom of the Opera, Shakespeare, 3 Musketeers), I'm reading the Series of Unfortunate events to my son, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is my favorite Children's book, and yes, I read romance books. OH, and Sherlock Holmes. I don't get to read as much as I used to, but I still LOVE IT.

I read in bursts.. like I spend a few weeks reading a book, then won't pick up another for a few months. 1984, Boss of Bosses, and A Clockwork Orange are some of my semi-recent favorites.

i like to read mostly non-fiction

I'm usually reading 5 or 6 books at a time but I may not finish them. Sometimes I just read certain chapters. Sometimes I read them front to back.
I also enjoy fiction but I dont read nearly as much fiction as non-fiction.
I like anything related to socio-economic topics. I'm huge on philosophy and I like to read anything that discredits the system.

I'm currently working on a handful of Noam Chomsky books and I always love to pic up a little Nietzsche from time to time.

currently reading Naked Empire by Terry Goodkind, the sword of truth series is great. I just got into fantasy a couple years ago.

Still read a lot of other stuff too, Grisham, Michael Connelly, Clive Cussler, RA Salvatore, Redwall series a long time ago, etc.....

Reading is great, more people need to do it for sure.

I pretty much learned english by reading books.. I've read a shitload in high school, and still read quite a bit.. Mostly sci-fi (star wars, ender's series) and medieval fantasy (the belgariad et. al., wheel of time, LotR, etc).. although lately I'm starting to develop interest in more informative stuff, like various psychology books/magazines..
so yeah.. read or die!
