There is no doubt that Kevin Martin has made some questionable decisions during his reign as chief of the FCC, decisions which nearly led to his forced exit (http://www.dslreports.com/shownews/92539) by Democratic leaders. However, not everyone in the cable and wireless industries thinks that Martin is all bad. RCR Wireless News has an interesting article (http://www.rcrnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080329/SUB/753820745/1005) on Martin today. They write: "Martin is controversial, but arguably no less so than previous FCC chairmen who grappled with their own complex telecom issues under the glare of a Congress ready to pounce at a moment s notice and amid a swarm of persistent lobbyists anxious to argue why their companies should have a fair advantage."
The article ends with an interview of the FCC boss which succinctly summarizes Martin s stance on a number of industry issues. He talks specifically about why he feels that the 700 MHz auction was a success despite the failure of the public safety spectrum to be sold. He also discusses other wireless public safety issues and the role that he believes the FCC plays in that industry. The interview recaps a lot of what has been said about Martin in recent months but provides a nice summary for those interested in catching up on what Martin is all about.
