So my CS doesn't work anymore. I tell it to launch the game and it does its regular "Preparing to play CS: Source" load shit then it just stops. No load no nothin. I have just finished reinstalling it and that took for goddamn ever. ANyone know what could be causing this?

Just a guess and probably the wrong one, but apparently there was just a Steam update so maybe you need to accept its connection through your firewall.

The only real thing to do incase of a complete Steam Failure is to uninstall and reinstall everything.

so even after the reinstall its still broken??? Hmmm.... I must now investigate.....
do you get any error messages Mach?... thats odd it would just hang on 'boot' and not tell you anything... ?
"STEAM" says, run spy-ware detection programs (adaware should work just fine), check your video settings in the game....try launching it differently..
IE... (I dont know how you launch source.. but...) try, instead of clicking servers, and trying to go straight to the GNG... try going to 'play games' and launch CS that way, THEN once the game is already loaded... click on servers from within the program, and try to log on to your server. I have heard of people having problems (still to this day) who can not launch the game by clicking on the server first, they have to do as I stated above.
Oh, and one last thing... if you donr get any error messages... at what phase does it seem to hang on?.. does the screen go black? does it stop on a particular phase of loading the game?... more info, and I might be able to help you through this...

When you uninstalled steam, did you physically delete all the directories associated with it? Remember, when you uninstall programs, they usually leave their directories behind with configuration information and other things.
Delete your clientregistry.blob file? You can also try the steam validation tool. Go to this link steam://validate/240

Neb: It just has the prparing to play CS box come up...it goes away then nothing happens. It's like i never tried to load it in the first place. I tried joining directly to GNG then through play games. Nothing seems to be working.
AR: I probably didn't do that but it'll wait till I get home. After I take care of it or can't find what you're talking about I'll post.
Thanks for the help guys.

After is disappears, have you checked the 'Task Manager' under the 'Processes' tab to ensure that it's still not running in the background?
With the info AR provided, next time scan through the registery and delete anything that has to do with steam as well.

yeah... that sounds like the best solution... should resolve any issues, rather than spending all of the time getting a headache over a fix..
..that was like this afternoon.. some guy was having a problem printing ONE document in office 2003.. I read up on it on Microsoft Tech site, and they started going through different kinds of templates, and renaming them to newdoc.old, having office recreate templates and all this crap.. I just reloaded office... screw the hassles.. works great

We don't have that choice, we are just sys admins. We can make a suggestion but that won't go very far.

That sucks. If Adaware doesn't open something is wrong. Do you have a up-to-date virus scan installed? I use AVG, free and works well.
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/Get+AVG+FREE/lng/us/tpl/v5
Better yet, go into safe mode and reinstall Adaware and try running it.

Oh and if you give me an out-of-this-world blow job. But yeah so everything is updated, i installed all of my old programs. When I say from scratch i mean from scratch. I redid my ENTIRE system. Good to hear man.
Hopefully I'll be able to track down why my ping sucks really bad on CS now... For the most part, everything is cool until I get near other players, then my ping shoots up to 100-200, bleh :doubt:
The_Machinist
05-11-2005, 08:40 AM
Whoa...did you get any new updates for hardware recently? or maybe the new directX one? when I got the directX upgrade, my ping shot up into the 100's as well so maybe the same thing happened to you. So I deleted that bitch.
Nebula
05-11-2005, 09:21 AM
nope, didnt upgrade or touch anything... just happened one night. My ping on average was about 90 (which is already completely ridiculous considering what I "normally" get) and when everyone started moving it shot up to 200-300.
I really think the problem just rests in my ISP. They claimed they upgrade a bunch of crap a few months ago... I didnt notice any improvement... but I believe its just everyone in my neighborhood hording my bandwith. The only confusing factor is why it suddenly shoots up when everyone starts moving, or I get close to people.. I understand there will be some fluctuation there, but there is no reason why my latency should shoot up another 100-200 :frown:
