I don't know if you would called it insomia. But for awhile it was seasonal for me. Which sounds weird but it would hit for a few months around the same time each year. So far so good this year.

Sammie
05-16-2005, 07:57 PM
i never have a problem sleeping during the day. I just seem to hit a second wind around 10pm.
Even if I have not slept in days, once the sun goes down I have a hard time falling asleep

You're just stressed because of the 24k turning into 11k. If you have a routine switch it up a bunch, keep your body guessing and you'll be more tired in the evening. If you sit at work all day then go for a jog at lunch or call mark and try and get a nooner in on your desk. (take pictures) Also, if you can somehow combine AR's and Hooli's suggestion I can guarentee you'll be asleep afterwards.

Sammie,
Weed does the same exact thing to me - if i smoke too late at night Ill be up for a long time even all night sometimes. My wife thinks im nuts. But I carefully consider the time in the evening before lighting up.

As far as Insomnia goes I suffer from that as well. It is a strange flavor of insomnia though - like you mentioned - no problem sleeping during the day but cant sleep at night.

I can offer no immediate advice except something you probably already know - most of the stuff suggested so far wont help at all I suspect. And you probably already know this if you have been through insomnia b4. If not, then I hope it helps you. But its crap for me. Lately, I have been resigned to suffering sleep deprivation.

I am a medical professional, (an RN), and have worked crazy shifts and crazy amounts of hours and used to think it was that. But recently, in the past two years, my scheduled has calmed and my stress has been well manage yet the insomnia continues probably 33% of the month. No cure yet but I remain optimistic.

I have some pet theories but you'd prolly think I was nuts... For now, I have decided to deal and cope as I see fit. Don't worry, you wont run into me in the hospital and have your life in the hands of a sleep deprived ER nurse. Two years ago I started teaching and work very infrequently in the "field". In fact the sole criterion for me doing some hospital time is a good night's sleep.

If anyone is interested in chatting more about the joys of insomnia (whats good on tv at three am, how wierd the neighborhood is at 2am etc) I am certianly into commiserating.

i abuse stomach medicine called promethezine (sp?)....

hehe..

my gf had some of those things, and i'd had them in the past... they always knocked me the fuck out... she got a bottle and didn't use any of them...

i take them when i really need to sleep, or when i get home from drinkin'... i wake up about 12 hours later feeling like a million spacebucks...

 you read that wrong Syl... Sammie was saying she would kill TO BE a morning person... not kill the morning person. hehehe....

I am a morning person indeed... but the problem is, I am like MetalGod... weeknights... come ~10PM, I start getting tired... fast.... if I am in bed at 10:30, I will more than likely be asleep come 11.

However, this definitely has its downsides... that neat little internal clock us 'morning people' have... usually doesnt have an off button for the weekends.... so everyone goes out.. you string yourself out to stay out with all of these 'night owls'... you finally fall asleep in your drunken state (or whatever) at 3AM or so....the next morning, I am still going to wake up between 8 or 9... and once I wake up... thats it, I am up for good. I would have to say 9 times out of 10 I will stay awake staring at the ceiling wishing I could go back to sleep.

Well Nebula, I would rather have the gun. I didn't read it wrong, I don't think I'll ever be a monring person. I don't what it is. Even if I wake up at 8 am or so and feeling like I got enough sleep/feeling good, I still avoid people in the mornings. I'm just like 'blah'. Every morning feels like my head is heavy and I can't function right until a few hours after I'm up and about. :doubt:

To quote the late, great Rick James, that promethazine, "it's a hell of a drug." LoL

But seriously, sleepiness is a side effect of promethazine. It's an antihistamine, (like Benadryl), with antiemetic effects.

It's cool that it works for you but I can't take them to help me sleep because I wake up feeling drugged.

If I'm going take drugs or wake up feeling drugged, it'd better be worth it!!

Schwag free for sometime,

Doc gave me some sleeping pills a long way back. I don't remember the name of one but the other is called Trazodone. Which is really a anti-depressant. The doc said my mind wouldn't slow down for sleep. When I was taking it I had to take it around 9PM or I would feel like shit in the morning. Like 3043 is talking about. It worked for a week or so then I had to double it then I just stopped taking it. I was getting a HIGH tolerance to it.

Sammie
05-25-2005, 07:22 PM
yea i took that stuff

they gave me ambien first. it didnt do a thing. the doc was like "this is very powerful stuff so make sure youre at home and in a safe place before taking it."
ha! the only thing it did for me was give me a horrible stomach ache. I was still wide eyed 36 hours after taking it. no sleep at all.

So then he switched me to the trazadone or whatever its called. It said to take it with food, so I did. 18 hours later...still awake.
The next time I took it on a completely empty stomach. That did the trick and I was able to catch some zzz's, but I only took it a couple of times.

Now when i cant sleep i just consider it more hours in my day and try to do something productive.

I recently got the nice hook up on xanax so I have not had much trouble sleeping. Pop one of those babies around 2 or three in the afternoon and I sleep like a baby later that night

sylverarrow
05-25-2005, 07:30 PM
I've heard you mention them before. I LOVE xanax... Send me some... lol I can't find them anymore.

Sammie
05-25-2005, 07:41 PM
im having to pay for the xanax in kind bud and my kind bud connection just got popped. so i might be sol here shortly.
i gobbled up a $1,000 worth of nugs and im sitting on them.
when i run out, im going to cry

Ambien kicks my ass. I have some at home right now. Ill take one 10mg pill and an hour later its night night time. Sometimes Im a little dopey in the morning but it does the trick when it gets bad enough.

Trazadone is heavy shit. Not surprised to hear of the tolerance, very common.

I wish I could be productive when Im up but when I don't get 'nuff sleep I wont go to the gym, clean the house, walk my dog too far, I don't feel like doing much of any other productive shit. Grrrr! :salookr: I hate it.

While we are on the topic I haven't had Kind in a long time. The last stuff i had was some designer shit, diesel it was called. And I also tried black jumanji that night. The jumanji made my lips numb. But I look too much like a narq to buy from just any old person. I usually have to let it fall into my lap by way of a mutual friend. Bah! I tell ya tho, that weed keeps me up like nothing else.

Sammie
05-28-2005, 10:25 PM
agreed

weed is like caffiene to me

and if i mix alcohol with xanax i can consume large amounts for hours on end.

i try not to mix them too often, b/c of that fact

I found a cool doctor a few years back. He prescribes (90) 1mg xanax a month (1080 a year), and I go for a checkup every 6 months to tell him if they are still working.

Insomnia sucks. For a while I was on Remeron, but it was way too much money, and they made you feel like a zombie the next day.
