Music or no music?

Most of you know that I play with music on and constantly complain about my frame rate sucking dick. So last night i decided to try with no music/winamp. To my suprise my frame rate almost tripled (from 15-30 to 45-60) and everything was smooth as butter, i was even was able to jack up res/detail with good fps.

Now thats all good, but I hate playing without music, its boring, but I also hate shitty frame rate. I can't beleive winamp messes up CS so bad. Do you guys use something else to listen to music when playing games? Maybe its my sound card that can't handle two independent sources of sound, I don't know, but I need my music.

Winamp loves the CPU. I will not play FPS games with Winamp running. I listen to music on my stereo while playing FPS, games like StarCraft I'll play Winamp.

yeah, I think just about any program that plays your music is going to eat up your CPU, or "clock cycles" if you will...

So really all you can do is just, not run it, or like what sylver said... play it on a stereo... or if you get lucky enough to find a MP3/CD player that doesnt eat up your resources... which in all technicality, (I hate to say it) would probably be something like windows media player ::shivers:: ... but it would still eat up the system resources.

I ran my own little tests. Windows Media player is worse the Winamp...not by alot but still takes a little bit more.

I used to use musicmatch jukebox until one of the 'updates' fucked it right up and it started crashing every 5 minutes.. but it didn't affect my cs too much, not that I noticed anyway. Now I switched to winamp and it's definitely a monster.. The only stereo system in the house is two floors down from my room, and I don't feel like dragging it up here just so I can listen to music while playing *sigh*

running a asus board with xp 2800+ chip, 1 gig ddr, 128meg 4400 ti gforce vid card, windows xp pro. outperforms alot of systems that cost more but i dont have a burnin tester or anything to test with

So then how do you know that it outperforms systems that cost more? Are you saying that your system will outperform the same exact configurtion that uses a 3000+ instead of a 2800+ since it costs more?

I think he is saying it's custom built so it's cheaper. If its tweaked right it can ran slightly better then one bought from the store. I used to build my own but I bought this laptop and got my 3 to 4 year warranty. I'll probably continue to build my desktops until I can afford a top of the line Alienware. :rolleyes:

you know for some reason winamp works better while im in css. see i listen to streaming radio (di.fm) <---- best streaming trance on the web. anyway when my comp is idle winamp will stutter and lag, but when im playing CS, winamp plays without a hitch. i dont usually like to listen to music while playing cs because then you cant hear footsteps and such.
