I recently noted that Verizon has sued Time Warner Cable for false advertising (http://www.thegng.org/shownews/93471), after the cable company's latest ads (http://www.timewarnercable.com/MediaLibrary/4/50/Content%20Management/HomePage/Reskin%20Video/Fiber%2060%20SEC%203%2018%20VERS.swf) made several misleading claims (they were delivering fiber before Verizon) and one patently false one (you need a dish to get FiOS). Verizon lawyers should love Time Warner Cable's new website (http://www.timewarnercable.com/nynj/competitive/default.html?CMP=BAC-NYNJ?Site=Weatherbug?Creative=FIOS), which takes aim at FiOS. The website informs would-be shoppers that users can avoid P.Y.T (possible yard trauma) and those pesky blistering FiOS speeds by settling for a Time Warner Cable broadband connection.
The website, which features an actor pretending to be an average schmoe, informs you that Time Warner Cable "gives you fiber optics without the hassle." Said schmoe also informs you that "Verizon FiOS isn't the only one that gives you fiber optics, but they pretty much have the weird name covered." Totally, dude.
Honestly, who needs to upgrade to DOCSIS 3.0 to compete with FiOS when you can just confuse customers into thinking that hybrid fiber/coax connections are the same thing as fiber to the home?
