Tru2Way is an invention of the cable company which is intended to allow for the integration of set-top box functionality into TVs and other viewing devices. These devices can be used with any cable operator. And the president of CableLabs has also invited the telcos to go ahead and join in as well. "The bottom line here is that tru2way is open, he said in prepared remarks. It is not exclusive to cable but is available to any multichannel provider that chooses to implement it on their network and in devices."
This offer has the potential to create a series of new applications for interactive TV viewing. However, initial tests of Tru2Way called it a disaster (http://www.dslreports.com/shownews/95169) so the telephone companies may not be rushing to get on board.
