Earlier this year, the cable companies complained that Verizon uses sleazy marketing (http://www.dslreports.com/shownews/92923) tactics to retain customers that are trying to switch from Verizon to cable service. The customer would chose cable service and then Verizon would get a portability request notifying the company of this at which time Verizon would pitch offers to the customer to convince them to stay with the company. The cable companies said this marketing was unfair but Verizon argued that it was a perfectly legitimate way to provide customers with information about their options. The FCC has reviewed the issue and has agreed (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080621/bs_nm/verizon_fcc_dc) that Verizon s tactics are inappropriate. The decision bans Verizon from continuing this practice although details haven t officially been released by the FCC.
